We are committed to delivering high quality infrastructure for the residents, businesses and visitors to Halton Region, and are looking for dedicated, forward thinking and enthusiastic individuals to join our Public Works team **Posting ID**: 3842 **Department**: Public Works **Division**: Waste Management **Pay Range**: $72,744 - $90,930 **Job Type**: Permanent **Hours of Work**: 40 hours per week **Work Location**: Halton Waste Management Site, 5400 Regional Road 25, Oakville **Employee Group**: OCT **Posting Date**:January 22, 2025 **Application Deadline**: February 5, 2025 **Job Summary**: **Duties & Responsibilities**: - Ensure the day-to-day operations of the HWMS are conducted in a manner that protects the public and the environment and the HWMS is maintained in clean, safe and compliant conditions. - Operate on-site heavy equipment (e.g. compactor, bulldozer, front-end loader, backhoe, water truck and forklift) safely and efficiently to accomplish various landfill tasks. - Inspects loads for acceptable and unacceptable materials. - Educate and enforce regulations related to waste management through interactions with customers of the HWMS. - Perform after-hours standby duties on a rotating basis. - Performs other duties as assigned. **Skills & Qualifications**: - Minimum of a secondary school diploma. - A certificate in heavy equipment operation (e.g., bulldozer, front-end loader, backhoe) and/or a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience operating a compactor, track-type dozer, and other heavy equipment. - Heavy equipment operation in a landfill environment. - Mechanical aptitude with basic equipment maintenance knowledge. - Excellent verbal and written communication and conflict resolution skills for interactions with customers and contractors. - Possess computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office, Excel and Word. - Possession of "DZ" or "AZ" driver's license. **Working/ Employment Conditions**: **Working Conditions** - This position is located at the Halton Waste Management Site (HWMS). - The position requires work to be performed in inclement weather conditions and challenging terrain (e.g. steep, slippery slopes). - Requires heavy lifting in excess of 20 kg. - Must be flexible with working hours to accommodate Saturday work throughout the year and Sunday mornings in May and June. **Employment Conditions** - Provides a valid class “G” Ontario driver’s licence. - Incumbent must possess a valid "DZ" or "AZ" Ontario driver's licence to move beyond the probationary period. - The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s licence and a driver’s abstract, by their first day of employment. - In accordance with requirements in Ontario Regulation 191/11 - Integrated Accessibility Standards and the Ontario Human Rights Code, Halton Region will accommodate the needs of individuals with disabilities throughout the recruitment process.
