**Job Summary**:
Monitor industrial, commercial and residential discharges to the storm and sanitary sewer systems in order to protect the public’s health and the natural environment. Members of Halton’s 24-hour emergency spills response team.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Takes daily direction from Inspectors on industrial waste matters.
- Undertakes monitoring of industrial discharges to the Regional sanitary and storm sewer systems, both routine and special monitoring programs.
- Assists in industrial waste survey updates and performs follow-up sampling.
- Reviews analytical monitoring results, performs data entry of monitoring results and prepares comments for file.
- Responds to chemical/oil spills as required and assists in containment operations.
- Responds to calls from wastewater plant operations regarding suspected industrial spills/discharges.
- Performs grease trap and service station inspections.
- Performs maintenance and calibration of monitoring, sampling and safety equipment.
- Prepares schedules for all routine monitoring programs and makes appropriate arrangements for sample analysis.
- Ensures an adequate supply of sampling material and spill containment equipment.

**Skills & Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary education at the Community College level in the environmental field.
- One year related experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.
- Familiarity with water sampling/monitoring equipment and proper sampling techniques.
- Knowledge of chemical suits and related breathing apparatus.
- Eligibility for registration with O.A.C.E.T.T.

- The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license and a driver’s abstract, by their first day of employment.
- The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including lifting approximately 50 lbs., pushing, pulling, and moving heavy materials, equipment and boxes.
