Communications Coordinator - POPEY

Richmond School District operates 38 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, alternate programs, continuing education and a number of additional facilities. The district enrolls approximately 21,000 students (K-12) and employs over 3000 dedicated staff.

The Communications Coordinator performs a variety of duties relating to the external communications and strategies of the Provincial Outreach Program for the Early Years (POPEY). POPEY is a British Columbia Ministry of Education and Child Care Provincial Resource Program with an outreach focus and the host School District is SD38. POPEY provides services to educators in BC public school districts and Group I and II independent schools. Support is delivered through in person and virtual workshops and learning opportunities, rural residencies, networking, and digital resources. The POPEY Program Communications Coordinator will effectively guide and maintain communications in support of the POPEY Service Delivery Model, both virtual and in person to districts and partners throughout the province, while assisting in the planning and execution of workshops and conferences.

**Major Duties and Responsibilities**

(This is not an exhaustive list of the duties to be performed.)
- Develop, implement, and manage effective communication strategies and plans for projects, initiatives, events, and our Provincial District Partner network.
- Compose a variety of external communication materials.
- Enhance online access to information, videos, resources, and professional learning opportunities; oversees distribution of eNewsletters, session/workshop handouts, videos and info bursts.
- Design visual communication for social media and website (posters, flyers, etc.)
- Develop and implement communication and marketing strategies for POPEY outreach and networking.
- Guide the nature, mix and scheduling of communication vehicles to achieve POPEY goals and mandates.
- Manage POPEY media channels and prepares content calendars to ensure a regular communication schedule.
- Plan, create and execute content for social media and digital communications channels.
- Provide advice and support to maintain POPEY webpages and social media accounts.
- Respond to inquiries and online conversations on POPEY’s social media feeds.
- Use analytics to evaluate online initiatives and tools and adjust tactics accordingly.
- Collaborate on development, strategy of content related to POPEY initiatives.
- Maintain current relevant knowledge of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA)

**Required Qualifications**
- Grade 12 or equivalent plus a post-secondary diploma or equivalent in Communications, Journalism or Marketing or in a related area such as public relations or marketing and advertising.
- 1 - 2 years’ experience in organization communications or a similar role, or equivalent combination
- Previous experience with content creation, digital communications or public relations.
- Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills, and the ability to adapt tone and style to various audiences and media, including print and web.
- Creative and outstanding graphic design and presentation skills including skills with the following software/technology: Adobe Creative Suite, Keynote, Microsoft Word, Website Host’s CMS (compatible with WordPress).
- Ability to prioritize deliverables.
- Strong degree of initiative and ability to see projects through to completion.
- Solid foundation in digital marketing, and external communications.
- Social media management experience using Twitter, Instagram, You Tube
- Demonstrated success in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Ability to work collaboratively and productively in a team environment.
- Work well both independently and collaboratively.

This position is in the bargaining unit, with an hourly rate of pay of $30.29 plus a competitive benefit package of medical, extended health, dental and a pension plan. The position is in-person, and 28 hours/week. The position is 10-months and follows the school calendar.
