Reporting to the Manager of Student Success & Wellbeing, Brampton the Academic Student
Success & Immigration Advisor is responsible for working in a collaborative environment and the coordination of on-site arrangements for the delivery of the Brampton-based programming in the area of Student Success and Wellbeing.

This position will be front-line/front desk, student-centric, and service based. Please note the expected hours for this position will be based on a 35-hour workweek, but will be non-regular to accommodate service to students, events, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
**A. Academic Advising / Registration (50%)**
- Work cooperatively with staff in Student Success Central to coordinate access to student support services for Brampton students.
- Work independently to advise, advocate and support students following the
University’s academic procedures ensuring the standard operating procedures (SOPs)

and established policies and past practices are followed.
- Provide Academic Advising to first-year students as assigned and upper-year students as needed.
- Maintain current knowledge of the university calendar, academic program requirements, deadlines, procedures, regulations for course overloads, etc.
- Direct students through the process of course selection, program requirements/ prerequisites, and the student’s academic interests, including post-graduate programs and the student’s abilities.
- Coordinate with Recruitment / Admissions staff to transition students from applicant to registrant.
- Develop individual Student Success Plans and collect, maintain, and analyze data to improve retention and graduation rates.
- Organize and implement tri-annual Academic Orientation programs for all incoming students.
- Provide ongoing academic advising training to faculty and other Student Success staff as required.
- Partake in ongoing academic advising, career development, and culturally appropriate student services training.

**B. Retention / Student Services (40%)**
- Provide guidance and information to students regarding policies and procedures, eg. code of conduct, academic dishonesty, grade appeals, etc.
- Provide support services such as social, career, personal and academic guidance as well as referral services to all students.
- Provide immigration advice or referral to immigration support services to international students and follow legislative and regulatory guidelines and standards regarding student advising on immigration-related matters (Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship
Canada (IRCC), Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC).
- Create and promote internal awareness of student satisfaction and the importance of service to students, including the annual student satisfaction/experience survey.
- Respond, assist, and coordinate the referral of students to mental health supports and services.
- Assist in administering academic support services including peer tutoring, special needs services, and other related academic support services provided through collaboration with the Learning Centre.
- Manage the relationships with external student support providers including the CMHA and other Health Services contacts in Brampton.
- Build community connections for the provision of services to Brampton students.
- Work collaboratively with Student Success (Academic Advisor, Learning Respond, assist, and coordinate the referral of students to mental health supports and services.
- Assist in administering academic support services including peer tutoring, special needs services, and other related academic support services provided through collaboration with the Learning Centre.
- Manage the relationships with external student support providers including the CMHA and other Health Services contacts in Brampton.
- Build community connections for the provision of services to Brampton students.
- Work collaboratively with Student Success (Academic Advisor, Learning Academic

Resource Centre, International Team, Student Life, Recruitment, and Academic Units, to ensure student needs are met.
- Collect data regarding Brampton students for the development of an institutional profile of student activities, needs, and preferences.
- Provide Crisis Intervention including counseling intake and referring to and following up with students to ensure student success.
- Coordinate the Student Early Alert Program and deliver bounce-back and early alert programming for students in Brampton.
