**WHY THIS ROLE**:
The Social Media Specialist is a member of the marketing and communications team led by the Senior Director, Marketing and Communications, and reports to the Team Lead, Corporate Communications and Mainstreet Marketing. As social media lead for the organization, they are responsible for developing the social media strategy, managing all social media platforms, developing informative and engaging content, and implementing digital marketing strategies. The Specialist executes upon integrated marketing and communications plans and contribute to the development and delivery of a broad range of communications and marketing services for Invest Ottawa, Bayview Yards and Area X.O. This includes supporting corporate and divisional/team-based objectives.

**WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING**:

- Managing the corporate voice on social media platforms for Invest Ottawa, Bayview Yards and Area X.O including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube; and key events
- Developing and delivering social media strategy through integrated social media content creation including campaigns;
- Responsible for providing the marketing team members with comprehensive analytics, data presentations, and resource management reports;
- Providing guidance and counsel to fellow team members, employees and stakeholders when supporting social media efforts
- Collaborate with teams to develop digital marketing strategies, create integrated website content, and design on-brand social media graphics.
- Keeping all social media activity relevant, current, and engaging for target stakeholders and leads on-going dialogue with internal and external stakeholders in our community on social media;
- Driving the growth of the social media followership and engagement;
- Contributing to the evaluation of the digital media strategy and tactics, with a focus on the impact of social media outreach;
- Conducting research, developing strategies and working to evolve social media influencer outreach program and campaigns;
- Working collaboratively with fellow Invest Ottawa and Bayview Yards team members on key messages, crafting supporting evidence points, and collecting third-party data, examples, success stories and testimonials that address corporate, marketing/communications and equity, diversity and inclusion objectives;
- Conducting research to support the creation of impactful messaging and positioning; contributing ideas and recommendations to related marketing materials targeted to key audiences;
- Providing photo and video coverage of key in-person events to be shared across social media channels;
- Coordinating social media contractors as appropriate;
- Undertaking any other duties assigned by management, exhibiting adaptability and a readiness to contribute across multifaceted initiatives

**WHAT YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED**/ GAINED THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER**:

- Excellent communications and digital media skills with proficiency in writing and editing in English and French;
- Up to three years of experience in social media strategy and execution, content development and delivery
- Knowledge of the innovation ecosystem, tech sector, economic development and associated support organizations
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in Business, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or Journalism or equivalent work experience
- 3 years of experience working in a communications/marketing role
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective audiences (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram) and how they can be deployed;
- In-depth knowledge of Sprout Social and of its suite of social media analytic tools, platforms and reporting;
- Strong project management skills and experience using Asana is considered a strong asset;
- Working knowledge of design software such as Adobe Illustrator and Canva is an asset;
- Working knowledge of website software such as WordPress and HTML is an asset;
- Strong-understanding of social media user-experience (UX) and the ability to influence success and trends on social media;
- Results-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills;
- Self-starter with strong ability to work independently, be proactive and take initiative;
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities and demands in a fast-paced environment;
- A high level of creativity with an ability to contribute to strategy and associated tactics and deliverables with a focus on quality and attention to detail;
- Excellent relationship development, stakeholder management and customer relations skills;
- Photography and video skills for capturing images and videos at live in person events, as well as knowledge of creating effective video and photo content for social media.
