Under the direction of the Director of Inter-Government Affairs, the Natural Resources Coordinator will research and respond to referrals related to natural resources and environmental impacts. Topics may relate to forestry, traditional land use, water licenses, climate change mitigation and preparedness, natural hazards, mineral extraction/mining, and industrial development.

The Natural Resources Coordinator will ensure that all relevant perspectives including ecological, economic, and cultural are included in the detailed review and response to referrals impacting the Nation. The position will include research, reporting, documenting, and liaising with staff and professional consultants, to meet deliverables like mitigation plans, community engagement, and environmental sustainability.

**WHAT YOU'LL DO**

**Research**:

- Create scientific reports and presentations.
- Engage in research to preserve traditional land use and assess strategies to mitigate climate change impacts.
- Assist with forestry referrals, ensuring that strategies and communications align with the band's objectives for land use and resource conservation.
- Support initiatives that contribute to climate change mitigation and sustain the ecological integrity of both reserve and off-reserve lands.
- Develop and implement stakeholder engagement and communication plans.
- Conduct social, economic, and review environmental analyses and assessments, develop recommendations, and prepare various reports.
- Participate in and/or facilitate a variety of committees, round table discussions, and technical and public meetings as a local government representative.
- Liaise with a variety of groups regarding land and natural resources activities.
- Undertake special projects that take advantage of current opportunities or address present-day community challenges.
- Liaise with a broad sector of agencies, industries, associations, businesses, institutions, committees, and relevant government departments on natural resource development issues.

**Administrative**:

- Detailed note taking and recording of information sessions.
- Good coordinating and monitoring skills
- Good record keeping skills.
- Coordinate incoming and outgoing agency and stakeholder referrals.
- Oversee consultant contracts, including preparation of terms of reference, review of proposals, development of contracts, oversight of contractor activities and budget, review of deliverables, and approval of payments.
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your Supervisor, Manager, Director, Executive Director / CAO, or Chief & Council.

**WHAT YOU BRING**

**Education**
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies or related field (e.g., Environmental Sciences, Geography, Environmental Management, Urban/Rural Planning, Ethnohistory, Cultural Anthropology)

**Experience**
- Geographic information systems (GIS) training and experience is considered an asset.
- Ability to work well with multiple deadlines.
- Experience in identifying baseline and trend information to inform future land use
- Experience in community engagement or consultative processes.

**Requirements**:

- Proficient computer skills with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.)
- Proficient interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
- Ability to agree as well as adhere to Seabird Island Band Human Resources (HR), Finance, and Information Technology (IT) Policies and Procedures, etc.
