Under the direction of the Culture & Community Services Manager, the Elders Program Coordinator will be the main contact for Elders and will play a key role in assisting Edlers with accessing programs and services offered by both Seabird Island Band and other resources off reserve.

**WHAT YOU'LL DO**
- Maintain positive frequent contact with Elders.
- Research, develop, lead, implement and deliver appropriate programs and services for elder clients.
- Provide regular information sessions to explain new opportunities, forms filing deadlines, changes to benefits and/or laws which might have an effect on current income.
- Keep detailed statistics to support requests for funding.
- Develop a monthly Elders newsletter for Elders.
- Develop a home bound program for Elders and Elders fitness.
- Connect with Band Elders to engage them in Band activities.
- Connect Elders with necessary and appropriate programs and services both at request and in a proactive/preventative manner.
- Establish strong, healthy, and appropriate relationships.
- Serve as a support for Elders as needed.
- Record activities to track impacts and trends.
- Create Elders contact sheet of all Elders and Elders coming to age of 65 for target group.
- Track all Elders that attend programs in excel sheet and update in electronic health
- Work with all departments to inform and invite Elders as needed to functions/meetings.
- Work with the House of Learning team for coordinating drinks/snack/reminders to Elders.
- Work with the better at homes coordinator assistance in reaching Elders/ updating.
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your Supervisor, Manager, Director, or the ED
**WHAT YOU BRING**
**Education**:
- Diploma from a recognized college related to social services, healthcare or gerontology.
**License/Designation**
- First Aid and CPR certified
**Experience**
- Three (3) years’ experience working with dementia, including Alzheimer’s and other aging illnesses in a healthcare setting.
- Two (2) years organizational management experience
- Strong desire to help others and a sense of responsibility to community members.
- Research skills required to source all available programs which may be beneficial to either of these two groups of clients.
- Familiar with CPP and other supports available to Elders.
- Able to deliver information to clients in a manner that is accessible to the audience.
- Available for varied shifts to accommodate Elders availability and activity schedule including days evenings and weekends.
- Participate in community activities and functions as required by SIB and Chief and Council, including but not limited to Seabird Island Festival, and the Seabird Island Open House.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to adhere to an Oath of Confidentiality agreement, Seabird Island Band Policies and Procedures
- Knowledge, respect, and understanding of Stó: lō culture, history, traditions, and language is considered an asset.
- Experience working with First Nations community is considered an asset.
- Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5 & clean Driver’s Abstract is required.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector - CRRP is required.
