The Manager of Employee Safety and Injury Prevention plays a pivotal role in cultivating a safe, healthy, and supportive workplace across the Government of Manitoba. With a strong emphasis on both physical and psychological well-being, this role works collaboratively with internal safety leaders—including senior leadership, union representatives, and Workplace Safety & Health Committees—to champion continuous improvement in health and safety practices. Through proactive engagement, education, and strategic collaboration, the manager fosters a culture of safety that empowers employees, ensures compliance with legislative requirements, and promotes wellness at all levels of the organization.
The Employee Safety and Injury Prevention unit leads the development and oversight of government-wide safety strategies, driving a proactive safety culture and ensuring adherence to workplace safety legislation. The manager oversees a team responsible for delivering targeted programs, training, and hazard assessments designed to reduce injury risks and support employee well-being. By leveraging data-driven evaluation and cross-departmental collaboration, this role ensures ongoing improvement and contributes to a safe, healthy, and productive public service.

Qualifications:
**Essential**:
- **Education & Certification**: Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Human Resources, Public Administration, or a related field, complemented by relevant experience. A recognized safety designation—such as Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), or Health & Safety Professional (HSP)—is required.
- **Program Leadership**: Proven experience in designing, delivering, and evaluating occupational health and safety programs that provide expert guidance and coaching to staff and leadership across all levels.
- **Team Management**: Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with a track record of managing diverse teams, fostering inclusion, supporting employee development, and driving performance.
- **Change Leadership**: Demonstrated ability to lead and support organizational change with optimism, while cultivating a culture of innovation, resilience, and responsible risk-taking.
- **Collaborative Engagement**: Experience working with internal and external partners to develop and implement health and safety initiatives, including safety plans and hazard assessments.
- **Legislative Knowledge**: Solid understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, policies, and collective agreements governing workplace safety.
- **Interpersonal & Advisory Skills**: Exceptional relationship-building and client service skills, with the ability to work collaboratively, establish credibility, and provide strategic advice on complex and sensitive issues with political acumen.
- **Communication & Analysis**: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience preparing and presenting materials to varied audiences. Skilled in research and data analysis, with the ability to translate findings into actionable insights.
- **Organizational Effectiveness**: Demonstrated self-management and prioritization skills, with the ability to balance multiple projects and deliver results in a dynamic environment.

Reporting to the Director of Occupational Safety and Health, the Manager of Employee Safety and Injury Prevention provides strategic leadership to a dedicated team, guiding performance, coaching, and development to align with the goals of the Occupational Health & Safety Branch, Workforce Relations Division, and the broader Government of Manitoba.
