**Opportunity**:
MacEwan University is seeking a Library Technician II - Archives Technician for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Library. The Archives Technician engages in diverse tasks to support the discovery, accessibility, and preservation of archival and special collections, as well as the institutional repository. The position encompasses both technical and public services, including ensuring materials are accessioned, accurately described and arranged, and stored appropriately; quality assurance of metadata for descriptive and digital content systems, contributing to the development and implementation of digital preservation workflows, digitization, and providing in-depth research services.

Key responsibilities include:

- Maintaining Archives' holdings, including appraisal, accessioning, arrangement, description, and development of authority records and finding aids in AtoM, following archival principles and RAD;
- Processing archival materials and special collections according to best practices and national standards;
- Providing reference assistance (research, retrieval, instruction) and ensures compliance with policies; refers complex inquiries to the University Archivist;
- Providing backup for critical duties when the University Archivist is absent;
- Managing digital collections, digitizes materials, creates metadata, and develops workflows for digitized content;
- Processing digital materials into the preservation system and improves digital preservation workflows;
- Contributing to outreach initiatives, social media, and exhibitions promoting archival and library resources;
- Staying current on advancements in digitization and digital preservation;
- Collaborating with Library IT staff on the implementation and troubleshooting of archival software;
- Directing support staff assisting with archival projects;
- Ensuring metadata records meet established standards and maintains repository tracking spreadsheets and software guidelines;
- Collaborating with the Scholarly Communications Librarian, Technician, and Library IT staff on repository-related tasks; and
- Providing reference and circulation assistance at the Library Services Desk up to 6 hours per week.

**SKILLS**:

- Working knowledge of library and archival principles and practices;
- Strong organizational, communication, analytical and research skills;
- The ability to solve problems creatively;
- Strong reference and information retrieval skills;
- The ability to maintain a high-level accuracy and attention to detail;
- The ability to work effectively in an evolving and innovative environment and balance competing deadlines, priorities and tasks;
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with digital preservation issues, tools, standards, and best practices;
- Experience creating effective digitization workflows and implementing projects;
- Experience with digital preservation, including hands-on experience working with physical, born-digital media, and web preservation; and
- The physical ability to perform moderately heavy lifting (approximately 25 pounds).

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Minimum graduate of a two-year library technician program, with coursework in archival studies, from an accredited institution or related experience
