In this role, you’ll dive into the city’s lifestyle, events, and cultural happenings for Curiocity Calgary. You're just as excited to break a story about a buzzy new opening as you are to spotlight an event that you think Calgary needs to know about. You're a confident writer, a natural storyteller, and a culture-savvy content creator who thrives in a fast-paced digital atmosphere and loves being on the pulse of what’s new, next, and uniquely Calgary. **What You'll Do** - Report and write fresh, on-brand, and credible content while ensuring accuracy, timely reporting, and engaging storytelling across multiple platforms. - Write multiple pieces daily and ensure consistent content cadence for our local brands. - Pitch feasible stories daily and take assignments from your local editor that align with Calgary’s editorial focus. - Ensure articles follow company guidelines, including proper sourcing, fact-checking, and adherence to ZDN’s style guide. - Conduct necessary research, including interviews, event coverage, and staying informed on lifestyle/travel trends and the local scene. - Create written content using strong visual storytelling and platform best practices. Select, edit, or shoot high-quality images and videos to accompany stories. - Monitor article performance and adjust content strategy based on engagement metrics and audience behaviour. - Repurpose written content to social media platforms as required. - Stay up-to-date with social media trends, competitor activity, and industry best practices to enhance content strategy. - Attend local events on behalf of the Company, understanding some of these unique event opportunities occur evenings and weekends. - Maintain a deep understanding of your assigned city’s lifestyle scene. - Be a team player and collaborate with editors, social media managers, photographers, and videographers to produce compelling content. - Other tasks as assigned by your manager. **What You Have** - Deep-rooted knowledge of Calgary’s arts, culture, entertainment, and lifestyle scene with a passion for sharing local stories driven by city pride. - An undergraduate or graduate degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field is considered an asset. - Proven professional experience in digital media. - Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a portfolio that showcases your ability to produce clean, engaging, and accurate content in a fast-paced digital environment. - Ability to pitch original ideas, take direction, and consistently meet deadlines while juggling multiple assignments. - Ability to generate social media content based on originally written articles. - A self-starter who thrives working independently and collaboratively as part of a tight-knit, creative team. - Excellent time management, organizational skills, and keen attention to detail. - Understanding of social media best practices is also an advantage. **What We Offer** - Flexible paid time off policy to ensure you're able to get the break you need and work at an optimized level. - Opportunity for both professional and personal growth. - Hybrid work environment. - Benefits package including dental, vision and extended health starting after 3 months.
