TransitNext M&R is a wholly owned subsidiary of SNC Lavalin O&M. TransitNext has been awarded a 27-year contract to maintain the Trillium Line, the newly extended diesel rail transit system in Ottawa designated as Lines 2 and 4.
**Location - Ottawa, ON**
**Position Summary**:
- Responsible for the safe operation and control of rail vehicles within the confines of Walkley yard. Including oversight for all DMU movements, enforcement of Operating Rules, adherence to safety critical procedures and monitoring of SCADA, CCTV, safety, and security systems.
- Controllers are required to use various communication technologies including but not limited to radio, telephone, and public address systems to keep staff and the TOCC informed of operational activities. Communicates with DROs and the TOCC with regard to dispatching and receiving trains to and from the mainline. Has the authority to control and manage all personnel and vehicle activity within the yard limits including DMU, maintenance vehicles and track maintenance personnel accessing the track.
- Controllers use the yard control system to route movements in the yard through a desk control console, and monitors activities accordingly. Duties also include monitoring on-time performance and system delays, vehicles, and communicate with DROs as required to help resolve equipment issues and assist in service recovery as needed. Controllers will assist wayside personnel with managing track access including implementation of track authorities as required and be aware of permit status at all times. Required to operate SCADA to monitor and control various information systems, mechanical systems, and electrical systems as part of operating station elements.
- Controllers are responsible for tracking and monitoring delays and other incidents and reporting on these items on a daily basis. Controllers work closely with technical staff to support technical investigations and review system performance on an ongoing basis. They are responsible for implementing safety and hazard controls for other groups and are responsible for interfacing with the TOCC to ensure they are apprised of operating conditions, system issues, and other events. Provides train/track dispatch information to the TOCC and DROs in the event of last-minute changes.
- This position is safety critical. Fitness for duty is a requirement of the position.
**Your role within the team**:
- **_ Responsible for the safe operation and movement within the MSF by:_**
- Controlling and directing staff on yard tracks to ensure safe operations.
- Controlling the operations and movement of rail vehicles within the Trillium Line MSF which requires use of the S&TCS control system, SCADA systems, and other computer-based control systems.
- Controlling all MSF switches and train movement including the movement of maintenance equipment.
- Keeping track of incidents and events during system delays, vehicle failures, safety or security events, or other similar scenarios; collaborates to respond to failures and ensure the continued operation of the system and coordinating with field staff, and the TOCC and other internal/external groups to respond to events.
- Use MMPRS (creates work orders) to track incidents reported VIA SCADA and all other sources.
- Controlling the handover/launch of vehicles into service, removal or reduction of vehicles from services, and other train movement activities which require constant communication with the TOCC/DROs.
- Controlling track access by TNext staff and ensure compliance with the Canadian Rail Operating Rules for track access, track authorities, and work zones.
- Utilizing various communication tools (radio, telephone, public address) to keep staff and other stakeholders advised.
- Reporting delays and problems promptly and taking appropriate actions to correct performance and maintain established schedules.

- Establishing priorities and assigning the work in collaboration with yard/shop supervision to maximize available resources and meet service goals and objectives.
- Participates in daily delay briefings, weekly reviews, after-action reviews, and other similar continuous improvement activities in order to analyze and understand the operational performance issues.
- Supporting and coordinating with TOCC Rail Supervisors to respond to operational scenarios.
- Responding to Technicians questions and/or resolving unforeseen problems as requested:
- Providing leadership and coaching while guiding staff to meet expectations.
- Responding to questions from and clarification to Diesel Rail Operators as requested.
- Maintaining work quality and output by monitoring performance and ensuring that staff perform their duties effectively.
