**Summary of Responsibilities**:
The Coordinator of Volunteer Services is the primary link between BGC South Coast BC (BGC) and the community with respect to the recruitment and placement of volunteers (ages 19+) and all BGC volunteer services.

As a member of BGC, the Coordinator of Volunteer Services will use best practices when organizing and managing volunteers in various programs that contribute to the benefits and services offered to BGC participants.

In addition, this position will be involved in various administrative tasks related to the provision of centralized support for Clubs, Programs and Camp.

**Job Duties**:

- Develop, implement, co-ordinate and evaluate volunteer programs within BGC.
- Recruit, interview, screen, train and orientate appropriate placement of volunteers (excluding Board and Committee members) in partnership with BGC staff (may also provide indirect supervision as needed).
- Processes and follow up on Criminal Record Checks for all volunteers.
- Maintain individual volunteer records.
- Ensure volunteer position descriptions and other volunteer written materials (for purposes of orienting and guiding volunteers) are prepared and distributed to the appropriate supervisor.
- Establish and maintain sound volunteer policies and procedures within the strategic objectives of BGC and review/revise as appropriate.
- Ensure adequate training and orientation is in place to enable volunteers to carry out the responsibilities of their assigned role.
- Responsible for providing support (initial, and on-going) to staff working with volunteers.
- Maintain and keep accurate files, records and data bases pertaining to volunteers.
- Attend and support events as needed that require the involvement of volunteers
- Commit to ongoing professional training to ensure best practice standards within the industry.
- Encourage resource sharing and partnerships, including educational institutions, corporations and other related not for profit agencies.
- Serve as the Agency contact person with local Volunteer Centres.
- Leads volunteer recognition program at BGC.
- Provide Admin support to Clubs and Camp as needed including data entry support and collecting and entering statistics.
- Other related duties as required.

**Requirements**:

- Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
- A diploma in volunteer management, or a related field with two years of experience recruiting, training, supervising, and recognizing volunteers. Experience in a similar non-profit environment is preferred.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient time and general management skills.
- Excellent Interviewing and assessment skills.
- Proven ability to promote the value of volunteers to staff and the community at large and to create a sense of teamwork between Program Coordinators, staff and volunteers.
- Must be flexible to attend volunteer related events that may occur on evenings and/or weekends.
- A reliable vehicle insured for business use and 2 million liability.
- Class IV drivers license is an asset.

**Note**:
This is a regular part-time salary position (30 hours per week) for the first six months with possibility for full time (37.5 hours per week) after six months. Benefits include 3 weeks vacation in first year, paid sick and personal leave, group benefits at six months and pension after one year.
