The Cook/Personal Support Worker uses their knowledge and experience in food production to ensure the proper, timely, and safe preparation and service of food according to established recipes, while adhering to all food safety and sanitation requirements and maintaining a safe and orderly kitchen. **As Ashwood Lodge is a small homelike assisted living facility, our team members have versatile roles, and in addition to taking the lead on cooking, the cooking lead supports our residents in living well.**

Essential Cook Functions of This Role Are Listed Include:

- Ensures high standards for food taste and quality are always maintained.
- Prepares and serves meals in a timely manner and in accordance with

established recipes and menus.
- Prepares required dietary modifications as ordered.
- Stocks, rotates, dates, and stores product according to food safety standards

and regulations.
- Maintains clean and organized kitchen, storage, and work areas.
- Completes assigned cleaning duties.
- Maintains all cooking equipment in a safe and working order and reports any issues promptly.
- Complies with occupational health and safety requirements, adheres to safety regulations, and practices safety at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Performs dishwashing tasks to properly wash and sanitize all dishes, silverware, glassware, utensils, and cookware.
- Performs light janitorial duties, including but not limited to sweeping work areas and dining room, sanitizing production areas, and emptying trash.
- Cleans assigned kitchen equipment, including but not limited to stoves, ovens, microwaves, mixers, refrigerators, freezers, ice makers, coffee machines, and hoods.
- Manage service in the dining areas as needed.

**Essential Resident Care Aide Functions of This Role Include**:

- Support residents to “live well” by facilitating their personal/self-care and activities of daily living requirements, needs, and preferences.
- To assist with medication administration to residents and to maintain accurate administration records.
- Assist residents by promoting and encouraging independence, personal interest, hobbies, and skills.
- To undertake daily housekeeping duties by maintaining a clean, comfortable, and safe environment for residents in both common areas and resident suites.

**Qualifications**
- Prior culinary training is an asset.
- High School Diploma/GED
- Job related experience including food preparation in a restaurant, hotel, or other

similar environment.
- Safe Food Handling Certification
- Written and verbal skills for effective communication.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrates good judgment, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
- Must have a satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector check.
- Experience working in a long-term care environment considered an asset.
