**HOURS**: 9:00am - 5:00pm, 3 days per week; 12:00pm - 8:00pm, 2 days per week (Saturdays mandatory during programming)

**ABOUT THE ORGANISATION** Tropicana Community Services, a Toronto-based multiservice organization, provides all youth, newcomers, people of Black and Caribbean heritage and others in need with opportunities and alternatives that lead to success and positive life choices. Our mission is achieved through culturally appropriate programs such as counselling, childcare, educational, and employment services and youth development.
**ABOUT THE POSITION **Reporting to the Manager of Culturally Appropriate Counselling, the Facilitator will report directly to be responsible for coordinating and facilitating for group sessions tailored to various counselling programs. The facilitator will liaise with a team of social workers and conduct outreach to recruit new mentors, as well as building strong rapport with the participants. Other main activities of this role encompass engaging participants and their families, preparing for events, scheduling orientations and meetings, developing program facilitations, and documentation.
**AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**_ Recruitment_**
- Promote awareness of the mentoring, and other Tropicana programs, to Black, African & Caribbean youth assessing their needs and reviewing the various options for service
- Plan, co-ordinate and recruit volunteer Mentors including distribution of program marketing materials, presentations to targeted organizations and ensuring presence at key community events, etc.
- Outreach to institutions such as but not limited to schools and youth-serving organizations to recruit Black, African & Caribbean youth into the program
- Maintain a database of all contacts made which can be shared by other program staff
**_ Facilitation_**
- Research, develop and facilitate group sessions as determined by service need
- In conjunction with Mentoring Support Lead, conduct orientation with new Mentees and their families
- Develop and facilitate groups as determined by demonstrated need evidenced by caseload (e.g. self-image, grief, healthy living)
- Develop and facilitate ART (Aggression Replacement Training) program for youth and their families
**_ Networking_**
- Develop positive links and partnerships with organizations to enhance the delivery of the Youth Mentorship program in the community
- Develop and maintain contact with the network of Youth Mentorship Program workers and other relevant community workers
- Develop partnerships with Black-focused professional organizations and associations that would be able to provide guest speakers
- Participant and represent Tropicana at community forums, conferences and meetings
- Liaise with staff in other agencies to share information and keep abreast of best practices in the field
- Participate in agency meetings as required and work on other committees as are related to the Youth Mentorship Program
**_ Administration_**
- Provide administrative duties to meet objectives
- Provide administrative duties including conducting periodic file checks to ensure that proper documentation is maintained
- Provide input for YMP service reports to Mentorship Support Lead for meetings and reports
- Maintain well-documented, up-to-date files for all clients
- Develop and maintain effective record-keeping and statistical collection mechanisms as mandated by the various funders; and provide relevant statistics as required
**SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS**
- Post-secondary education in Social Work or Social Service Work
- Current registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers & Social Service Workers
- Valid police clearance, including vulnerable sector screening
- Lived experience of the Black, African & Caribbean community preferred
- Ability to engage mentors with diverse skills and interests from within the Black, African & Caribbean community
- Awareness of Trauma-informed theory in relation to issues of: Violence against Women & Children, Anti-Black Racism and Anti-Youth Bias
- Well-honed social perceptive skills - awareness of the lived experience of others and how this affects the target group
- Ability to travel is a must
- Good rapport with children, youth and their caregivers
- Excellent facilitation skills with children, youth and adults
