**The Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Manager, Option’s Children Services and Community Engagement, the Community Facilitator - Nigerian Community, Healthy Families, Healthy Communities_ _conducts outreach, provides community-based workshops on issues related to family violence, develops peer support networks and trains and supports peer leaders working in specific newcomer communities.
**Responsibilities**:
**Direct Service**
- Participate in community outreach and program development
- Responsible for the recruitment of peer leaders and workshop participants for the project
- Provide mentorship, support and information to peer leaders
- Develop curriculum for educational workshops for newcomers, and facilitate workshops
- Provide information and referral to community members and participants involved
- Develop educational materials and/or provide information regarding educational materials
- Assist with translation of workshop materials
- Work independently in the community with mínimal supervision
- Ensure the regular and timely recording of data as required by the funder(s) and as part of FST policy
- Ensures that client complaints are considered, records kept, and reports generated consistently in accordance with FST policy.
- Ensures that confidentiality of client records and information is maintained and notifies Manager of any breeches as soon as detected.
- Adheres to all safety protocols of the organization and the program.
- Contributes to program development initiatives within the team and across programs.
**Supporting students and volunteers**
- Provides supervision to students and/or volunteers.
- Completes all necessary paperwork and training within the required time frames of student’s educational institutions and organization required documentation.
**Continuous Quality Improvement**
- Participate in organization, division specific and/or funder specified evaluations, outcome measures, client satisfaction surveys, collection of indicators specified by funder(s) and so on.
- Participate in team planning initiatives that are aligned with organizational strategic and operational priorities.
**External Relationships**
- Represents FST external committees and networks when required
**Training and Development**
- Participates in regular staff meetings and peer consultation sessions.
- Identify development and training needs in conjunction with manager and develop a plan to meet them.
**Working Conditions**
- Some travel is required in and around Toronto
- Requirement for flexibility in scheduling hours of work including both events and weekends and location of work
**Qualifications**:
- Post secondary education in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience over a minimum five
- year period. Foreign credentials and relevant experience will be considered
- Lived experience with the Nigerian community, as well as Excellent knowledge of the community.
- Ability to communicate orally and in written form in one of the languages of project communities
- Well-developed workshop and training skills
- Knowledge of the settlement process and related issues
- Knowledge of dynamics of abuse to women, seniors and children
- Knowledge of issues pertaining to newcomers of all ages
- Excellent working knowledge of community resources and supports
- Demonstrated commitment to principles of equity, inclusion and cultural competency
