**Your Role**:
Reporting to the Manager of Accounting Operations and working in conjunction with the Payroll Specialist, you will assist in administering, processing and maintaining the payroll and benefits for Global Relay's Canadian, US, and UK employees. You will also assist in the other related day-to-day operational tasks and financial activities of the Finance & Accounting team.
**Your Job**:
- Assist in the processing of full-cycle payroll for 900+ Canadian, US, and UK employees
- Assist in the completion of reconciliation and analysis tasks for Canadian, US, and UK employee benefit programs for employee withholding, tax and financial reporting purposes
- Working with the Payroll Specialist to reconcile monthly invoices and balance statements for other employee programs for Canadian, US, and UK employees for payroll purposes
- Prepare Records of Employment for employee departures and terminations when directed by the Payroll Specialist.
- Prepare incentive payout calculations and input into the payroll system for payroll processing
- Input of company bonuses, employee expense reimbursements, and other special payments for payroll processing.
- Assist in the preparation of annual year end payroll documentation for Canadian T4s, US W2s, and UK P11Ds and P60s, as directed by the Payroll Specialist
- Prepare payroll journal entries and reconciliations on a semi-monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Understand current payroll legislation and requirements and keep informed of any pending changes in Canada, US (federal and state), and the UK
- Ensure interpretation of legislated requirements and company policies are implemented and adhered to appropriately
- Act as a resource and resolve payroll inquiries from employees and managers
- Maintain confidentiality of all payroll information and documents at all times
- Ensure government reporting and remittance requirements are met
- Assist in the research of applicable tax treatment of benefits in Canada, US (federal and state), and the UK.
- Assist in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of the operating procedures for all payroll processes, alongside the Human Resources team
- Continuously strive to implement best practices, looking for areas to streamline and automate wherever possible.
- Assist in ad hoc departmental projects
**About You**:
- Minimum 1-2 years of working in an finance or accounting team, demonstrating an interest in learning payroll
- A diploma or degree in business administration or related field, with some Accounting courses; PCP or CPM designation preferred
- Impeccable accuracy with numbers and high attention to detail
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion and to be entrusted with confidential information
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and time-manage
- Excellent telephone etiquette and ability to write clear, concise and formal business communications
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team with mínimal supervision
- Ability to work in a fast paced team environment
- Strong work ethic and integrity
- Prior knowledge in US and UK payroll is not mandatory, but must be open to learning about the rules and regulations on those jurisdictions
- Familiarity with payroll systems (including Payworks and iSolved) is an asset
The Payroll Assistant may be required to occasionally work overtime when facing impending deadlines.
