**Systems Administrator**

The IT Systems Administrator plays a key role in supporting the Director of IT by assisting in the management and maintenance of the school’s IT infrastructure, including servers, network systems, and security protocols. This position ensures that the school’s IT systems operate securely, reliably, and efficiently, while also providing advanced technical support to students, faculty, and staff. The IT Systems Administrator works closely with the Director of IT to implement technology initiatives, maintain day-to-day operations, and ensure technology aligns with the educational and administrative needs of the school.

**Responsibilities**:

- Assist the IT Director in managing physical and virtual server environments, ensuring security, availability, and efficiency. Help with upgrades, monitoring, and patch management for server hardware and operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux, VMware, Citrix).
- Work closely with the IT Director to monitor, manage, and troubleshoot network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points, ensuring optimal performance. Assist in network upgrades and improvements.
- Provide level 2 troubleshooting for workstations, operating systems, and network connectivity issues. Support the school’s students, faculty, and staff through helpdesk and ticketing systems.
- Work with the IT Director to maintain and improve daily data storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions, ensuring the safety and integrity of critical information.
- Assist the IT Director in coordinating with technology vendors for hardware, software, and service procurement. Help maintain effective vendor relationships to support timely resolutions and long-term solutions.
- Support the IT Director in implementing IT security measures, including firewalls, antivirus software, and security policies. Monitor and address emerging threats, and assist in security audits and risk mitigation strategies.
- Support user accounts, permissions, and mobile device management (MDM). Set up and deploy new devices and ensure proper configurations for educational software.
- Help facilitate onboarding and offboarding processes, including setting up new users and devices, managing access, and ensuring data security as directed by the IT Director.
- Assist with IT needs during school events, meetings, and exams, including setup and support of AV equipment and digital assessment tools.
- Stay informed of the latest industry trends and best practices in IT, networking, and security by participating in professional learning and development opportunities.
- Occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends, depending on the needs of the school or institution.
- Periodic on-call responsibilities to address urgent technical issues outside of regular working hours.
- Postsecondary education in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Google Certified Administrator, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or AWS Certified Solutions Architect are preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in systems administration, network administration, or IT support, preferably in an educational or institutional setting.
- In-depth knowledge of Windows, macOS, Chrome OS and Linux operating systems, including installation, configuration, and management.
- Proficiency in managing virtualized environments using VMware, Hyper-V, Citrix, or similar technologies.
- Experience with cloud platforms like Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and cloud infrastructure services such as AWS or Azure.
- Expertise in managing SAN (Storage Area Networks) and NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices for efficient data storage and backup.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automating system tasks and improving efficiency.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs) and technologies like VPN, SD-WAN, and load balancing.
