The Coordinator, Infection Prevention and Control, under the direction of the Manager, Infection Prevention and
Control, will promote and foster positive working relationships with clinical and non‑clinical departments to ensure a
strong culture of infection control practice and collaborate with other departments to improve day‑to‑day compliance
with IPAC processes. In addition, the Coordinator is responsible for organizing, planning, coordinating and
supervising the activities of Infection Prevention and Control, consistent with the mission, vision and values of
Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience:
- Degree or diploma in a health related field (i.e. Bachelor of Science, Practical Nursing, Medical Laboratory
Technology, etc.).
- Current unencumbered license or registration from applicable regulatory body (i.e. College of Nurses of Ontario,
College of Medical Laboratory Technologists) or Certification in Infection Control (CIC) from the Certification Board of
Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC).
- CIC from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) and ability to maintain certification
- Completion of IPAC Canada endorsed infection control program
- Recent knowledge in Infection Control, preferably in an acute care setting, with current knowledge of infectious
diseases and method to effectively control their spread with training or experience in healthcare epidemiology and
infection control
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
- High level of self initiative and direction
- Ability to work effectively individually and within a team setting
- Knowledge of practice standards and guiding principles to foster professional practice and accountability
- Analytical skills in order to monitor, assess and implement programs and address operational needs and ensure
fiscal sustainability
- Interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence to interact effectively with staff, patients, family supports and
community partners
- Leadership and teamwork skills to support, coach, direct, mentor and teach activities to clinical staff and to promote
positive staff relations
- Demonstrated management abilities including managing complex planning activities, project management
experience and financial budget management
- Demonstrated negotiation, facilitative and consultation skills and ability to develop partnerships with key
stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to lead a multi‑disciplinary team including team building skills, as well as the ability to initiate
and model positive change
- Effective presentation, writing and communication skills
Salary Range: $48.542 to 57.106
