Under the general supervision of the Cultural Development & Public Art Coordinator, and technical direction and guidance of Section staff, assists with the development and implementation of the Public Art Program, Cultural Development initiatives and planning and implementation of events, programs and activities within the Section.

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Participates in administration of public art competitions and projects.
- Completes data entry and updates within the Public Art and Cultural Mapping databases.
- Participates in inventory, cataloging, organization and display of the Public Art Collection, including collecting GPS positioning and condition assessment data on Public Art works throughout the city of Thunder Bay.
- Conducts research, policy, and statistical analysis on the cultural sector in Thunder Bay.
- Assists with development and implementation of the Culture Plan.
- Maintains and updates Section web pages, social media and Culture Portal.
- Develops promotional materials and content such as media releases, posters and brochures, reports and presentations, and content for online and print publications.
- Participates in equipment and supply gathering, set-up and take down for events and displays.
- Coordinates set-up and support of community group and artisan areas at events.
- Attend meetings with community arts and heritage groups and advisory committees as required.
- Performs such other such duties as may be assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education/Experience**:

- Post-secondary education in a program related to visual arts, art history, museum studies, conservation, or cultural planning
- Demonstrated knowledge of various artistic styles, methods and mediums, heritage and cultural sectors
- Experience working with community, artists, and works of art
- Demonstrated experience in administrative duties, children’s programs and/or community recreation or arts activities and/or volunteering

**Skills/Abilities**:

- Self-starter with proven organizational and time management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Must be able to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner
- Ability to think creatively and work well independently and within a team environment
- Must be proficient in the use of computers and current related software
- Excellent analytical, research, problem-solving, decision-making and project management skills

**Assets**:

- Knowledge of care and conservation of various types of art; knowledge of artistic styles and mediums
- Experience in web page development and use of GPS equipment an asset
- Knowledge of software programs - InMagic and GIS would be an asset
- Basic graphic design experience would be an asset

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:

- Must be willing to work irregular hours, off site and outdoors as required
- May be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation
