We are looking for an
**_Assistant Vice President (AVP) ERM - Strategic Risk Management_**

Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following head office locations: Toronto, London, Winnipeg._**

Based in Toronto and reporting to the VP and Head of Enterprise Risk Strategy, Advisory and Technology, the AVP ERM Strategic Risk Management will be responsible for development, implementation and continuous improvement of Lifeco’s Strategic Risk Framework that will ensure the Corporation effectively and efficiently manages highly strategic risks that may significantly impact profitability, growth, and competitive position. The role is also accountable for providing strategic risk oversight, analytics and advisory of highly material business strategies, M&A transactions and other activities that could impact achievement of Lifeco’s strategic vision.

The AVP is accountable and responsible to develop and provide oversight on strategic frameworks and processes that ensure Lifeco appropriately balances strategic risk/reward in design, translation and execution of strategy and strategic decisions to strengthen Lifeco’s market and capital position, reputation, and overall financial viability, through the following primary activities:

- ** Manage Lifeco’s Strategic Risk Management Framework**: Leveraging extensive insights and experience within the industry, provide visible leadership in the promotion of sound strategic risk management practices and methodologies across the organization by developing, establishing, and continuously improving strategic risk philosophy, governance, structure, procedures, and processes.
- ** Drive Strategic Risk Analytics and Advisory**: Identify, interpret, measure, report, and advise on strategic risk exposures, issues, losses, trends, and early warning signs.
- ** Deliver Effective Leadership**:Set a team culture that aligns to the broader corporate culture, and create an environment where direct reports and internal stakeholders are engaged, motivated and collectively committed to business success.

**What you will do**

**Strategic Risk Management Framework**
- Develop and implement the Lifeco Strategic Risk Framework and related sub-frameworks that enable businesses to effectively identify, measure, manage, monitor and report on strategic risks, including taxonomy, processes, methodologies, governance, risk assessment and monitoring programs (e.g., Key Risk Indicators).
- Develop Strategic Risk policies, standards, guidelines and training.
- Harmonize strategic risk management programs across the enterprise, driving consistency, quality, and continuous improvement in the execution of strategic risk framework activities to identify, assess, manage, monitor and report on strategic risk.
- Continually scan external environment (e.g., competitors; prudential regulators; industry dynamics and best practices) and business strategies to ensure the framework remains effective and provide visible leadership in the promotion of sound strategic risk management practices across the organization.

**Strategic Risk Oversight**
- Develop, implement, and manage a highly effective operating model for managing and overseeing strategic risk that supports local strategy / business oversight while enabling portfolio synergy / aggregate oversight.
- Actively participate with stakeholders in various regional and functional corporate strategy and risk teams to support monitoring and oversight based on identified strategic risks.
- Create and maintain a current aggregate strategic risk profile at the Lifeco level.
- Provide oversight of Lifeco-level corporate strategy and major strategic decisions
- Lead risk due diligence and oversight activities related to M&A transactions and provide risk consultancy services across the Function, where appropriate, to advise on and support M&A activity
- Independently review, challenge, and provide QA on regional / subsidiary strategic risk analysis including related risk opinions, metrics, reporting and scenario testing methodologies and results.
