Assistant Vice President, Risk Management - Toronto
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic risk management professional to join our team as the AVP of Risk Management. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, you will be responsible for developing and implementing risk management strategies across the organization. As an experienced member of the risk management team, you will have a high level of independence and expertise in risk management and the ability to exercise professional judgement. You will collaborate with various departments and external stakeholders to ensure that we have effective risk management practices in place. This is an important role that requires strong decision-making skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
**Responsibilities**:
- Develop and manage the company’s Enterprise Risk Management Program and processes including identifying and assessing risks, creating risk control plans, and participating on key committees. Ensure that the ERM program supports the company’s strategic plans.
- Develop and manage risk reporting for senior management and the board of directors, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulations.
- Lead the delivery of the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) in collaboration with the corporate actuarial department.
- Review and update risk-related policies and procedures to align with business needs, best practices, regulatory requirements, and rating agency expectations.
- Establish an operational resilience framework for the company.
- Support the CRO in various other responsibilities and projects, such as procuring the corporate insurance program, developing an ESG and climate risk framework, and addressing emerging projects or regulatory requirements.
- Cultivate strong relationships with business units and control functions to promote a risk-aware culture and add value through collaboration.
- Provide oversight as the second line of defense, working in coordination with the first line of defense.
**Qualifications**:
- 10+ years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in and current knowledge of the financial services industry is an asset.
- 5+ years of experience in a risk management role.
- Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA), Certificate in Risk Management (CRM), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), CIP (Chartered Insurance Professional), or other relevant risk management designation is an asset.
- Management experience is an asset.
- Ability to work independently on complex projects.
- Knowledge of OSFI regulation is an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
