Child Safety Social Worker

Kw’umut Lelum currently has one Child Safety Social Worker position available, and is looking for an individual who is skilled at working inclusively and respectfully with Indigenous children and families.

The successful Applicant will:

- Be a collaborative C6 delegated social work practitioner (preferred), with excellent interpersonal and self-management skills;
- Have the ability to mentor others and work effectively as a team player;
- Possess knowledge of, and are willing to work and learn about Coast Salish cultural values and protocols, and incorporate into the child safety process;
- Have the ability to inspire and promote strength based intake, assessment and family planning practices;
- Have a degree in Social Work with the requisite balance of training and experience;
- Have a strong performance appraisal from your current or most recent supervisor/agency.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Child Safety Team Lead, the Child Safety Social Worker specializes in developing plans with families to ensure the safety of children and youth through assessment and collaboration. Working with families with the goal of maintaining the family unit within the Indigenous community and/or culture is a priority.

General Job

**Responsibilities**:

- Collaboratively develops and implements plans by identifying client needs, establishing long and short term goals and resources to support the children and families.
- Ensures the ongoing management of cases by monitoring progress towards goals, coordinating services, consulting with other service providers, examining the terms of the contract and making referrals.
- Collaboratively engages families in determining appropriate processes (e.g. family group conference, mediation etc) ; assess and ensure that the resulting plan addresses child safety

Education and Experience
- Bachelors of Social Work, or Masters in Social Work, or Bachelors of Art in Child and Youth Care. Completion of a practicum in a family and welfare organization preferred;
- Minimum 2 years’ social work experience with preference given to applicants with previous recent work experience (within last 5 years) in Child Safety and is C6 delegated.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Strong understanding of social, economic, political and historical concerns in Indigenous communities;
- Ability to handle crisis and crisis intervention;
- Strong written and oral communication, familiar with ICM is an asset.

Required:

- Clean Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check;
- Must possess and maintain a valid BC class 5 driver’s license with no restrictions.

**May be required to work evening/weekends and on After Hours shifts monthly.**

Pay: $44.00-$46.00 per hour
