**Communications Coordinator**
- Hybrid role: Ideaspace Consulting and temporarily embedded with a government client_
**About the role**
We are hiring a Communications Coordinator who will temporarily split their time between Ideaspace Consulting and an embedded Communications Coordinator role with our government client supporting drinking water infrastructure projects.
For approximately four months, this role will be roughly 50 percent working with Ideaspace on consulting projects and 50 percent embedded with the government client. After that, the embedded portion will taper down but will remain part of the role.
In this hybrid role, you will be moving between a consulting environment and a large public-sector organization, often in the same week. It suits someone who learns quickly, writes clearly, stays organized under pressure, and is comfortable navigating different teams, systems, and expectations without needing constant direction.
In both roles, you will work closely with senior engagement and communications staff, engineers, designers, consultants, and community partners. Your work will include translating technical information into plain language, coordinating communications products, supporting engagement activities, and keeping projects moving.
This is a full-time, contract position based primarily out of our downtown Vancouver office (near SkyTrain, excellent lunch options, and an onsite gym), with some in-office time required for the embedded government role in the Lower Mainland. The contract is expected to run for an initial term, with the **potential to evolve into a salaried position** based on performance, fit, and ongoing project needs.
**What you will do**
**Communications and engagement delivery**
- Draft, develop, and finalize a wide range of communications materials, including letters, newsletters, door hangers, signage, fact sheets, web content, and social media posts
- Translate technical and construction-related information into clear, plain-language content
- Support the development of engagement materials such as surveys, presentations, reports, and public-facing summaries
- Respond to urgent and occasional last-minute communication needs while maintaining accuracy and quality
- Work closely with assigned graphic designers and follow established branding, design, and writing guidelines
- Coordinate internal reviews and manage sign-off processes involving multiple reviewers
**Production, distribution, and coordination**
- Manage the printing and distribution of approved materials, including hand-delivery, Canada Post mailings, and installation of project or construction signage
- Coordinate with approved contractors and vendors to ensure materials are delivered accurately and on schedule
- Track approvals, versions, and final outputs so records are clear and usable for future project teams
**Engagement support and record-keeping**
- Maintain organized project records and folders for communications and engagement activities
- With direction from senior staff, create feedback surveys, manage survey tools, and summarize input at the end of engagement periods
- Support longer-term tracking of engagement activities for stakeholders and First Nations
- Assist in compiling final summaries or reports outlining engagement strategies, tactics, and results where available
**Events and on-the-ground engagement**
- Support the planning and delivery of open houses, pop-ups, site tours, and stakeholder meetings
- Assist with event logistics including materials preparation, set-up, staffing coordination, and on-site support
- Draft clear, accurate meeting and event summaries, including public feedback
**Project coordination and client service**
- Act as a communications and engagement lead on lower-complexity construction projects, with guidance from senior staff
- Coordinate development, production, printing, distribution, and installation of communications materials
**What you bring**
**Experience and education**
- Post-secondary education in communications, public relations, English, or a related discipline
- Approximately three to five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience supporting communications and engagement initiatives (fact sheets, newsletters, events, social media, web content)
- Public-sector experience (municipal, regional, or provincial) is an asset
- Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset
**Skills and mindset**
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
- Proven ability to translate technical or complex information into plain language
- Strong organizational skills and comfort working across multiple projects and timelines
- Ability to exercise judgement and work independently, while collaborating closely with others
- Ability to respond calmly to competing priorities and shifting deadlines
