**Communications Coordinator, Vancouver Office**
1351-409 Granville Street, Vancouver, BCviasport
viaSport is a non-profit organization that believes in the power of sport to impact communities and lives across British Columbia. We support amateur sport organizations in B.C. to create experiences that are safe, inclusive and meaningful through our work in social innovation, research, fund management and capacity building.
As a small and passionate team working out of our downtown Vancouver office, we have an operating budget of approximately $2M, and we are dedicated to scaling the impact of sport in the province and beyond. As a key driver of this important work, our communications team is currently recruiting an **early-career individual** to help deliver our creative and strategic vision.
**Job Summary**
We’re looking for a digital communicator who has spent a few seasons in the field. With coaching from the communications and marketing team, you will further hone your creative abilities and strategic playbook to expand your responsibilities and impact through managing our digital channels, such as our website, digital newsletters and social media. You will generate (and report on) impressive stats as a reliable, valued member of the team. You have a strong interest in making an impact with offline communications, being involved in coordinating and executing non-digital communication plans and materials as well.
As the Communications Coordinator, you will provide ongoing support and creative advice across the organization, executing daily tasks and helping to develop and execute strategic projects. With prior insight into the communications and marketing continuum, you’ll effectively utilize traditional approaches while incorporating up-to-the-minute best practices. We’re currently working on some exciting updates to our brand and website, as a result, this role offers exposure to these unique career-building opportunities.
**Primary Responsibilities**
**Digital / Social Media**
- Support and execute the digital communications efforts and collaborate with the team in creating various materials including communications and marketing plans, social posts and content, articles, presentations and other communications and digital media assets as required.
- Perform and create regular website and social media updates and provide support on the delivery of a new website
**Stakeholder Communication and Engagement**
- Maintain media and stakeholder contact lists
- Deliver consistent reports using a variety of tools (e.g., website analytics, media monitoring), and use this data to enhance digital strategies in real-time
- Community outreach and assistance with external inquiries
**Marketing Communications**
- In partnership with the Marketing Communications Manager, act as a brand champion, ensuring consistency and accuracy across all internal and external communications and events, and contribute to support a brand refresh
- Support project and supplier management as needed.
**Who are you?**
You have a few years of experience outside of your post-secondary education and have specialized in digital and social media communications - although you still believe in the grass roots style of communication, using everything from newsletter to written communication pieces, etc. You are looking for an opportunity to lead projects such as rebranding and redeveloping our digital channel platform. You are looking to work in a collaborative work environment within an office, to get to know the team and learn from each other and what we do. Therefore for at least the first 3 months, you will be working out of our office and then may move to a hybrid home office/viaSport office work week.
**Education and/or experience**
An equivalent combination of the following education and experience will be considered:
- Undergraduate degree in digital communications, communications, marketing or other relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training and expertise
- Two years of combined experience in communications and/or marketing
- Experience contributing to, creating and executing communications strategies with a focus on social and digital media
- Professional level experience working with social media platforms, Microsoft Office, Google Suite and Adobe Acrobat; working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite
- Understanding of social/digital media strategy, optimization and evaluation.
**Extra points for**:
- Experience with multimedia communications including graphic design, video and podcast production.
**additional attributes**
In addition to these prerequisites, we’re looking for someone who:
- Is a pro at written and oral communication, demonstrating eagle eye editing skills in English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Brings organization skills and delivers on deadlines
- Is comfortable gathering and reporting on data and analytics
