Job Summary
The Communications Coordinator will manage the day-to-day communications for the Emeritus College. Under the direction of the Administrative Manager, the Communications Coordinator will lead the development and execution of strategic communications initiatives, including identifying, creating and writing publications and stories that raise the profile and stature of the Emeritus College, planning and editing relevant content for the website, and assisting with communications-related special projects. They will also be responsible for managing the College’s social media pages and supporting the activities of the Development/Fundraising committee.

Organizational Status

The UBC Emeritus College (EC) was established in 2018, and is a developing unit within UBC. The College seeks to enrich the lives and continuing intellectual engagement of retired faculty members granted emeritus status by the UBC Senate and others granted membership of the UBC Emeritus College. It encourages Emeriti to participate in UBC affairs, and seeks to improve the profile of both the College and UBC in local, national, and international communities. The Emeritus College is part of the VP Academic portfolio.

Work Performed

The Communications Coordinator will perform the following duties:
- Identifies and responds to emerging opportunities to profile the College, research done by UBC emeriti and its contributions to UBC and the general community by writing stories for the College’s website, newsletter, and other UBC publications.- Creates content for social media channels, including photography, illustrations, and video clips, as aligned with wider communication initiatives and/or campaigns.- Develops and manages effective working relationships with key communications personnel in other areas of the University, including the VP Academic, Media Relations, Communications, as well as UBC Media Relations.- Works with volunteer members of the committees and staff to generate relevant communication ideas and ensure alignment on messaging, audience, delivery and best practices for external communications and events, and specifically the Development/Fundraising committee.- Manages the creation of an inclusive and engaged communications role in the Emeritus College by developing relationships with College members that support the College’s strategic goals.- Assists with communicating the College’s strategic planning process, goals, and outputs to the College’s community in an effective and strategic manner.- Plans, writes and edits relevant content and designs layouts for key communications tools and stakeholder-deliverable reports.- Ensures appropriateness and consistency of key messages for targeted audiences and planning dissemination strategies to key audiences.- Works closely with Events and Engagement Coordinator to promote events organized by College volunteers.- Manages and creates content for the College’s social media pages.- Collects data on website, mail and social media analytics, and assesses performance metrics for communications initiatives.- Performs other related duties as required.

Errors made could influence the timely completion of work and compromise the reputation of the College.

The Communications Coordinator receives direction from the Administrative Manager.

May supervise student workers.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum four years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
