As the leader of product development for the company you will provide innovation expertise for Canbrands own brands as well as other companies products. New competitive cost effective products will address emerging health and diet trends such as Keto, Vegan etc. all made in a Gluten Free environment. Working closely with production, you will ensure a smooth transition taking your lab concept into the production manufacturing process and ensure operational efficiency, company profitability and customer satisfaction.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Create products in response to Business Development directives
- Conduct and manage assigned projects independently, on time and within budget
- Research newly assigned projects/markets, develop and execute technical plans, collect and analyze data, communicate project status and results, generate reports and complete presentations
- Follow all necessary policies, processes including documentation and administration required to benefit from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), SR&ED tax incentives.
- Transfer lab developments to full scale plant trials
- Participate effectively on cross functional teams including Sales, Production and QA.
- Prepare product specifications and reformulations for customers
- Prepare and place sample requests from suppliers, for customers (either blends or finished products)
- Prepare product development formulations and nutrition facts panels
- Participate in idea contribution, troubleshooting and problem solving discussions.
- Provide technical insights and support to Customers, Sales and Operations.
- Contribute to R&D strategies related to gluten-free trends and significant business opportunities.
- Evaluate existing recipes for taste (and other) improvements/and or cost adjustments
- Assist in maintaining a lab environment that is safe, clean, organized and work ready
- Flexible in assuming additional tasks as needed to support company objectives

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- BS, preferably in Bakery Science, Food Science, or related fields.
- Minimum 5+ years’ baking experience and an understanding of gluten free or other specialty diet and lifestyle product development
- Demonstrated track record of successful end-to-end project management
- Strong formulation and industrial processing knowledge
- Ability to quickly and correctly produce a wide range of bakery products in a lab setting
- Strong problem solving skills and ability to use statistical analysis and experimental design
- Capable of self-management, multiple projects and tasks management
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt to different audiences
- Strong Mathematical and computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook.).
- Knowledge of Health & Safety, GMP and HACCP requirements
- Ability to work variable work hours as required

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $75,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
