Research Navigation Coordinator

**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
The Research Navigation Coordinator works in collaboration with researchers, patients and decision makers to form successful patient oriented research (POR) teams to enable health services and population health priority areas on Vancouver Island. Reporting to the Manager, Public and Patient Research Engagement, in the Research and Capacity Building Department and working in close collaboration with other members of the Vancouver Island Strategy for Patient Oriented Research ( SPOR ) BC Support for People and Patient Oriented Research Trials SUPPORT Unit ( SUPPORT Unit ) Regional Centre, this interactive and dynamic role will help teach and support patients, decision makers, researchers and practitioners at institutions and in the community on Vancouver Island to advance BC s health sector strategy through POR. This role will not embed on research teams directly rather will guide, provide information to and conduct specific activities predominantly in the start-up phase.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A graduate degree in a health related field, or a nursing degree, plus at least 5 years of experience in a clinical, health services or population health research capacity or working with health system collaborators on health research teams.
**Skills And Abilities**:
- In addition:
- A functional understanding of the health research process and the steps involved in the research and knowledge translation cycles.
- Highly developed 'soft skills including communication, team building, relationship building, flexibility, optimism, initiative and interpersonal/social skills.
- Functional knowledge and previous training in the area of cultural safety and humility is an asset.
- Communication skills (listening, talking and writing) must be adaptable to wide range of stakeholders with varying backgrounds and highly variable expertise.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, including effective conflict management abilities.
- Managing research teams and functional knowledge of project management principles is an asset.
- Ability to multi-task, work independently and prioritize effectively to ensure deadlines are met;
- Demonstrated understanding/training on the research ethics process, research integrity, completion of the Tri-Council Policy Statement 2 (TCPS2) training and other rules, regulations and guidelines that govern the conduct of high quality health research.
- Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
- Ability to travel, if needed, provincially and nationally and valid BC Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record and access to a reliable vehicle.
