At the Alberta Students’ Executive Council (ASEC) we are a small not-for-profit organization committed to advocating for post-secondary students and advancing their rights and well-being. ASEC empowers and unites student leaders to advocate for the best interests of post-secondary students in Alberta, ensuring accessible advanced education and quality of life for students. We achieve this through research, advocacy and awareness campaigns, consulting and engaging with various interest holders, and offering solutions to promote student-focused policy change. Our members are 15 students’ associations of publicly funded post-secondaries across Alberta, representing over 90,000 students.

**Job Overview**:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Policy Analyst to join our growing team. This entry-level role is perfect for individuals passionate about student advocacy, research, and snazzy data presentation, with an interest in the world of government relations. The Junior Policy Analyst will be a key resource for members and ASEC in all things related to data and research while also supporting administrative tasks as required. In a small team of three people, this is a fabulous opportunity for a new professional to produce quality public-facing work while gaining experience in many inner-workings of a nonprofit organization.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Research Support**: Conduct qualitative and quantitative research on key issues affecting students in post-secondary education.
- **Data Collection & Analysis**: Gather data through surveys, interviews, and public sources. Analyze and interpret data to generate actionable insights.
- **Report Writing**: Contribute to the development of research reports, policy briefs, and advocacy materials for both internal use and public distribution.
- **Literature Review**: Conduct reviews of academic and policy literature to identify trends and support the organization's position on various student-related issues.
- **Interest Holder Engagement**: Support outreach efforts by working with partner organizations, student groups, and academic institutions to collect data and feedback.
- **Presentation Support**: Work with the Communications and Engagement Advisor to prepare presentations for advocacy meetings, webinars, and other forums.
- **Administrative Assistance**: Support planning and execution of events, workshops, or meetings, and assist in maintaining accurate and organized records.

**Qualifications**:

- A degree or diploma, or entering final year of studies in Political Science, Sociology, Education, or a related field
- Interest in post-secondary education issues, student advocacy, and public policy.
- Experience or coursework in research methodology, data analysis, and report writing.
- Proficient in Google products, building and maintaining tracking dashboards, and an ability to orientate others on navigating both.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Eagerness to learn professionally and support other tasks as needed within the organization.
- Must be eligible to work full time in Canada.

**Work Environment**:

- ASEC has a small team that is increasing to three members this Summer.
- Employees enjoy flexibility of work hours and location with key on-site collaboration times and in-person events and meetings expected. Minimum 3 days per week in office.
- Full time employees receive employer paid health and dental, employee paid STD and LTD, RRSP matching to 3% of salary, and a professional development allotment.
- Full time employees begin accruing vacation at a rate of 3 weeks per year not included in the annual closure during winter break.
