Ministry of Education and Childcare
The Ministry of Education and Childcare is responsible for: developing and evaluating curriculum; teacher development and certification; supporting students with diverse learning needs; funding and supporting school boards; First Nations, Métis and Inuit and Francophone education; and overseeing basic education policy and regulations.
Alberta Education and Childcare supports students, parents, teachers, and administrators from Early Childhood Service (ECS) through Grade 12. The System Excellence Division
The division assures there are high quality teachers and system leaders in the education system, leads the provincial assessment of students to improve system performance, and provides strategic leadership and support services to the Early Childhood Services to Grade 12 education system and facilitates effective and collaborative relationships with school authorities and stakeholders.

The Field Services team provides guidance to school authorities to ensure the successful implementation of education-related legislation, regulations, policies, programs, and initiatives.
Reporting to the Policy Manager of the Policy and Priorities Branch, the Policy Analyst plays a key role in the development of policies, strategies and initiatives to support the Field Services sector, the System Excellence Division, and senior leaders as required. The Policy Analyst supports the development of policy initiatives for the Field Services sector, including activities to build policy capacity for staff in the sector. The Policy Analyst actively builds collaborative relationships and seeks opportunities to work together with other staff across the ministry.
Responsibilities include:
- Engaging in research, including jurisdictional scans, to help inform the development of policies to support the department and government goals, business plans and priorities.
- Providing advice and recommendations on the development of policies to support the department's priorities.
- Liaising with other branches and divisions to support policy development.
- Preparing a variety of documents to support decision making.
- Supporting the unit to accomplish operational goals and contributing to the effective operation of the Field Services Sector.

Requirements:
- A University Degree in a related field (Public Administration, Education, Social Sciences, Arts,etc) plus two years progressively responsible related experience.
- Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one-for one-basis.
Assets:
- Experience with projects involving changes to legislation, regulations and policies in order to provide strategic direction to branches and to make feasible recommendations to executive leadership.
- Knowledge of government decision-making, implementation, and internal and external stakeholder engagement processes.
- Project management and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple requests, competing priorities and to meet tight timelines.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Possess demonstrated strong abilities to develop and prepare clear options analysis and briefings. Experience writing reports and/or executive briefing notes is considered an asset.
- Ability to function well in a team-based environment that demands a high level of interpersonal skills.
- Ability to complete tasks independently.
- Proficient in automated systems and software tools used to carry out responsibilities (i.e., Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ARTS, the Internet and web-based programs).
