The OVPI is responsible for: - The development of a strategy that integrates Indigenous cultures, histories, beliefs and ways of being and knowing across all aspects of the university’s mission; - Supporting the work of the Office of Indigenous Academic and Community Engagement including student supports and community connections; and - Working closely with the office of Equity and Human Rights on a coordinated approach to systemic issues. The OVPI will seek guidance from Elders, Knowledge Keepers, colleagues and community leaders to achieve this visionary direction, as well as taking direction from key international, national and provincial recommendations,such as UNDRIP, the TRC Calls to Action and DRIPA Action Plan. **_*This position is eligible for a Hybrid Work Arrangement*_** **The salary range for this position is**: - **Recruitment range: $64,629 - $67,486** maximum starting salary is determined through knowledge, experience and internal equity. **- Performance range: starting salary to max of $71,504** is available through annual performance increases. - **_An employee in this classification is excluded from the bargaining unit as defined in the Labour Relations Code_** **- Indigenous Peoples** - Job Summary Reporting to the Director, Indigenous Strategic Priorities and Community Engagement, and receiving close day-to-day direction from the Executive Assistant, this position provides executive-level, comprehensive administrative and financial support to the OVPI Directors. This position works collaboratively as part of the administrative and leadership team in the OVPI and provides coverage for Executive Assistant and other administrative duties to the Vice-President Indigenous as required. The role supports a high-volume office while managing evolving priorities. The position deals with sensitive and confidential information and operates under strict timelines requiring constant adjustment of priorities and balancing of workload. Knowledge of colonization and the myriads of issues that arise from colonization (i.e. racism, mental health, addiction) is necessary. Specifically, an understanding of Coast Salish protocols including working knowledge of community structures, longhouse, chief and council, Elders, band administration and family structures. The incumbent must have Indigenous cultural competencies, be aware of and have knowledge of ongoing issues and concerns associated with the assigned projects and must always demonstrate discerning and independent judgement of the highest professional standard. An employee in this classification is excluded from the bargaining unit as defined in the Labour Relations Code. This position will support initiatives and events hosted by the OVPI that may take place in the evenings or on the weekends and requires the ability and willingness to work these hours as required.
