Compensation: $22-25/hour (depending on experience)

Hours: 20 hours per week

New Star Capital is seeking a part-time **Payroll, Benefits and Accounting Administrator** to join its accounting team located at its head office in South Edmonton. The **Payroll, Benefits and Accounting Administrator** will report directly to New Star’s CFO.

**About the role**:
Time will be split approximately 60% payroll activities and 40% accounting activities - 20 hours per week:
**Schedule will be flexible in hours/day but is required to be fixed per week. Prefer a fixed schedule with known hours. Example) M-F at 4 hours per day; M,W,F at 7 hours per day**

**Payroll and benefit administration - **responsible for all aspects of working with Payworks to process biweekly payroll for 18 companies, totaling approximately 150 employees - consisting of salary and hourly employees.

Approximate hours for the **Payroll and benefit administration** range from 10-12 hours per week.

**Accounting **- responsible for reconciling and posting payroll and benefit journal entries in Sage300 ERP for a number of businesses.

Assistance coding and entering accounts payable and printing the cheque run, credit card reconciliations and entries in Sage300. Monthly bank reconciliations for management companies.

Approximate hours for the Accounting range from 8-10 hours per week.

**Weekly/Biweekly activities**:
**Payroll**
- Using Payworks, process payroll for approximately 150 employees in 18 companies on a biweekly basis;
- Keeping record (and obtaining manager authorization) of payroll changes and reflecting those in Payworks;
- Reviewing and processing electronic timesheets through Payworks after obtaining manager confirmation of their review (we use bio-clock technology for time capture);
- Processing and reviewing preview payroll register that incorporates any payroll changes during period;
- Generating payroll - paystubs, net pay and payroll liabilities are automatically submitted.
- Add new employees, as hired - setting up in Payworks, linking to bioclocks, ensuring all new hire paperwork is provided and completed in full, and maintaining electronic employee files;
- Process terminations and ROEs, calculate final pay (as required per Alberta Labour Standards) and determine appropriate pay dates based on Alberta Employment Standards, using “extra” pay runs as required;
- Posting batch payroll journal entry in Sage300 after each pay cycle and posting the payroll accrual at month end;
- Running payroll reports from Payworks for Management Team - Banked time and hours be department;
- Running payroll reports from Payworks for records - payroll register, funds summary.

**Benefits**
- Benefit administration of health and dental plan: entitlement, enrollment, termination to plan;
- Reconciliation of monthly invoices to payroll deductions for the first pay of each month;
- Coding benefit invoice for entering through Sage300 ERP.

**Semi Annual activities**:

- WCB estimate trending review - compare to actual and true up if necessary;
- Updating benefit deductions for new plan year;
- PD7A reconciliations.

**Annual activities**:

- WCB estimates/actuals submission;
- Generating T4s.

Maintain control file of offer letter templates, policies and agreements. Update regularly, as legislation and best practises changes.

Ongoing training and support to managers on payroll matters.

HR and Payroll project assistance as required.

Project assistance as required.

**Proficiencies and experience**:

- Experience and working knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards;
- Must be detail oriented and deadline driven;
- Strong communication skills - regular communication with general managers and supervisors of operating entities - work together to strengthen controls, processes and obtain reports;
- Experience with Payworks would be an asset;
- Experience with Sage 300 ERP (AccPac) or similar accounting software such as Great Plains would be an asset;
- Intermediate experience with Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, Outlook);

**Qualifications**:

- PCP designation is preferred;
- 2 years payroll experience;
- Accounts payable processing experience would be an asset;
- Diploma in Accounting or Payroll
