The **Payroll and Benefits Administrator** is responsible for managing multiple financial activities relating to company weekly payroll function for non-union employees. This includes timely and accurate reporting of benefits related payroll data for the company employees. The position is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the benefits reconciliation spreadsheet, process a variety of benefit reports (daily, weekly, monthly), benefit adjustments to weekly payroll, and will create and run various audit processes. Processing health and wellness, life insurance and disability data controls with submissions. Integrity and strong attention to detail are crucial for this role. The Payroll and Benefits Administrator will report to the Payroll Manager.

**This position will be primarily responsible for managing the benefits program however there will be a requirement to carry out payroll related tasks and responsibilities as needed.**

**Benefits**:

- Advise and assist on interpretation and the administration of compensation, benefits and pensions.
- Process a variety of benefits reports (daily, weekly, monthly etc)
- Reconciliation of benefit data, by using programs such as Hubble, Excel and Canada Life portal.
- Monitor and maintain spreadsheets for benefits integrity.
- Guide in the processing of benefits enrolment forms including full cycle data entry in the system.
- Administer compensation and benefits programs that align with skill and training.
- Process reports regarding life insurance, health and wellness and disability databases.
- Administer group RRSP, TFSA and RESP plan.
- Manage the Corporate Wellness program. File, review and process expense claims.
- Processing employee enrollment forms for insurance and other benefits, updating employee/employer records with changes in benefits coverage, alerting employees to pending milestones and educating them on the employer’s policies and practices regarding benefits, and transmitting data to third-party carriers such as insurance companies.
- Ability to carry out high volume of data entry with high accuracy

**Payroll**:

- Maintaining and updating payroll records by reviewing payroll source documents, benefit elections, transfers, leaves of absence, and identifying and reconciling discrepancies
- Collaborate with the HR department and other departments to ensure pay and personnel records are accurate and up to date.
- Ensure compliance with legislation.
- Reconciling account balances for the purpose of maintaining accurate account balances and complying with related policies, practices and/or regulations.
- Assist with various audit processes
- Cross train with other team members to assist with back-ups for vacation, illness etc
- Tasks and duties vary and although supervised, require independence and good judgment
- Maintain a wide variety of payroll information, files and records in written and electronic formats for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
- Respond to written and verbal inquiries for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.
- Flexibility to assist with payroll as needed - timesheet review, data entry, reconciliation, ROE’s, T4’s and other requests

**Knowledge**:

- Minimum of 3 years' working experience in a construction benefits/payroll environment
- Experience with Canada Life and/or JDE is considered an asset
- Payroll experience is an asset
- Proven ability to build strong working relationships, internal and external to the organization.
- Specialized courses within Employee Benefits through recognized educational institutes.
- Payroll Administrator (PA) Certification; or Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification or equivalent.
- Excellent Microsoft Office and Excel skills
- Strong knowledge of payroll and Benefit provider’s systems, internal controls, and management.
- Experience in processing of salaries, bonuses, commissions, and other forms of compensation for both union and non-union employees
- Knowledge of audits, income tax forms, health benefits programs, company supported RRSP plans
- Data analysis and basic research skills required.
- Superior telephone manners and strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent data integrity, including proper spelling and grammar.
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
