The General Manager, Logistics is responsible for handling the surface transportation activities across the organization’s facilities including Taiga rail sidings, third party carriers and Taiga owned trucking assets. The General Manager, Logistics shall also create and maintain all associated documentation in adherence to legislation and organizational policies and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
- Post-Secondary education or equivalent experience
- 5 to 7 years of direct work experience in a logistics and/or transport function, or supply chain management
- 3 to 5 years direct work experience in an operations or facility management capacity (preferred in the trucking/logistics industry)
- Experience in managing third-party logistics providers.
- Experience in dispatch, driver management, and direct sales of marketing trucking/logistics services.
- Knowledge of distribution, forestry or building materials industry is an asset
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and highly organized
- Sound judgment, excellent interpersonal, and communication skills
- Extremely self-motivated, growth-oriented, and highly entrepreneurial
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Planning, developing, organizing, directing, managing, evaluating the operations and budgeting/forecasting for the division
- Directing the activities of staff in relation to transportation operations including dispatching, routing, and tracking transportation vehicles.
- Negotiate and authorize contracts, and direct procurement related to transportation operational needs of the division
- Direct and manage corporate governance and regulatory compliance procedures related to transportation activities
- Using business analysis to develop key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of the operations within the logistics division
- Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships
- Preparing a strategic and directional plan for growth of the division and maintaining it
- Recommend capital expenditures for acquisition of new equipment or property to increase efficiency and services of transportation operations within the division.
- Maintain open dialogue with other department managers to coordinate activities and improve performance and productivity
