Summary of Duties:
The Toronto Central Regional Cancer Program (TCRCP) is responsible for implementing provincial
standards and programs for cancer care and ensuring service providers meet the requirements
and targets set out in their partnership agreements with Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario).
The TCRCP consists of the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the
Princess Margaret Cancer Centre at University Health Network as well as partner hospitals that
provide and support cancer care in the region.

The Cancer Screening Program oversees the delivery of cancer screening services in the Toronto
Central region for ColonCancerCheck, Ontario Breast Screening Program, Ontario Cervical
Screening Program and Ontario Lung Screening Program. These programs seek to support
population-based screening and increase the cancer screening rates of eligible Ontarians.

The Health Promotion Coordinator works closely with regional community stakeholders and the
TCRCP regional clinical leads to develop and implement public and provider initiatives to promote
the awareness of cancer prevention and screening and to improve screening participation and
assessment. The Health Promotion Coordinator also works closely with the TCRCP Indigenous
Cancer Program to support priorities related to cancer screening for First Nations, Inuit, Métis and
urban Indigenous people in the Toronto Central region.
- Co-develops and implements initiatives for the annual public and provider education/awareness work plan to promote cancer prevention and screening
- Facilitates and coordinates public and provider cancer screening educational initiatives including presentations, newsletters, displays and workshops with community partners and the regional clinical leads
- Supports the regional clinical leads in the planning, implementation and evaluation of provider education and quality improvement initiatives
- Identifies and optimizes opportunities for collaboration within identified communities across the region
- Works in partnership with the TCRCP Indigenous Cancer Program to engage community and promote cancer screening at community events
- Engages and maintains strong working relationships and partnerships with a variety of regional stakeholders
- Customizes and disseminates current evidence-based presentations, tools and educational materials from Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario) for regional use to promote cancer screening to a variety of audiences
- Monitors, evaluates and reports on public and provider educational initiatives
- Designs and develops social media campaigns and communication materials geared towards public and health care provider audiences

Qualifications/Skills:

- Bachelor degree in a related field, Master’s degree preferred
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in health promotion, community engagement and physician engagement
- Experience working with First Nations, Inuit, Métis and urban Indigenous communities preferred
- Strong understanding of the Social Determinants of Health and barriers to cancer screening/health care access
- Completion of cultural safety and awareness training such as the Indigenous Relationship and Cultural Awareness training offered by Ontario Health
- Excellent presentation, group facilitation and training skills for a variety of audiences, including clinicians
- Strong relationship building skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Experience in program evaluation is preferred
- Experience in social media, communications, messaging and design is preferred
- Working knowledge of organized cancer screening programs
- Working knowledge of the Toronto Central region and the relevant stakeholders involved in cancer prevention and screening
- Experience with project planning, proposal development and evaluation, proposal development
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with team members and a variety of stakeholders
