This position is Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm with 35 hour work weeks. This contract is for 8 weeks.

**To be eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs program, applicants must meet the eligibility criteria including (but not limited to)**:

- Be between the age of 15-30.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment.
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

**Summary**:Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, the Summer Student - Youth Worker implements, and reports on youth program activity and workshop delivery. Incumbent must have the ability to work in a dynamic programming/service delivery environment. Programming and service delivery will utilize or access a majority of Agencies resources. This position may require evening and weekend work scheduling as per agency need.

**MAJOR TASKS WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING**:
**Counselling / Client Services**
- Setting up and running projects
- Mentoring or counselling individual participants
- Maintaining confidential client records
- Facilitating workshops in community settings
- Working with other organizations, such as schools and community groups
- Ongoing reporting on activities
- Assist with delivery of pre-employment training.
- Developing, facilitating, teaching and training of evidence-based and culturally safe programming that is approved by YES Employment Services leadership.
- Is up to date in accordance with Agency Policy and Procedures
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent planning, organization, problem-solving, decision-making and liaison skills
- Ability to work independently while being capable of collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Maintain contact with active clients.
- Counselling, assessments, referrals and group facilitation skills
- Help coordinate both Youth Programs.
- Update client resumes
- Update and organize internal database.
- Update client information in CATS

**Workshops**
- Facilitating workshops according to the schedule and set curriculum.
- Tracking client progress and completing statistical information summaries.
- Direct all incoming communications to appropriate personnel.

**Marketing**
- Liaise with other agencies to promote networking.
- Develop a thorough participant profile and referral to Employer Relations Coordinators and assist with placement.
- Represent YES at committees/organizational meetings if applicable.
- Provide information regarding other programs and services, when appropriate.
- Ensure clients are informed relative to YES Employment Services feedback and complaint process.

**Documentation**
- Responsible for recording up-to-date and accurate statistics, as required.
- Document/chart client files according to program and agency standards.

**Programming**
- Thorough knowledge of program guidelines.
- Participate in strategic planning process.
- Attend and report at staff and unit meetings if applicable.

Assist with Other duties as required by the Leadership Team.

**Qualifications**: Minimum grade 12 completion. Current post-secondary student returning to their studies in the next school year. Experience working in the human service sector or social work is an asset. Experience with helping services, familiar with counselling effectively. Ability to market programs and services. Excellent organizational skills to lead groups as required. Driver’s licence and use of vehicle required. Must be able to obtain business insurance.
