Children’s Centre Thunder Bay works together with families, caregivers and a community of partners to make a real difference in the quality of life of children and youth. We are an accredited, not-for-profit organization providing treatment and support services for children and youth, from birth to 18 years, who are experiencing behavioural, emotional, developmental or social difficulties.

The Centre is currently seeking to fill the following position:
Peer Support Worker, Youth Wellness Hub
Up to Three Temporary Part-Time
Hourly: $20.90-$25.43
Union Position

The Youth Wellness Hub for the City and District of Thunder Bay will be a youth friendly, culturally safe, low barrier “one stop shop” for youth ages 12-25 to access a wide range of services and support. Core services will include walk-in mental health and substance health counselling, primary care, peer mentorship and system navigation. Also available will be employment support, sexual health, life skills and recreational activities. Traditional Indigenous ceremonies and land-based activities will be facilitated at the Hub. It will provide high-quality integrated youth services to support the well-being of young people.

**Responsibilities**:
As a Peer Support Worker, you will utilize your lived/living experience to support youth accessing the Hub in determining their unique goals and service needs. In this role, you will provide education about navigating mental health, substance use, and other challenges as well as where to find resources in the community to address those concerns. As part of the Youth Wellness Team, Peers contribute to program development and outreach activities related to YWHO’s Clinical Services, Skills & Well-being Activities, and Community Support Services.? Peers are also responsible for co-creating a welcoming space for youth who access Hub services, attend drop-in activities, and require one-on-one mentorship.?

**Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Required**:
The Peer Support Worker of the Youth Wellness Hub position requires:

- Lived/living experience as a young person with mental health and/or substance use challenges, and/or part of 2SLGBTQ+ community, racialized communities, living with a disability (ies). Willingness for self-disclosure is required.
- Knowledge of community resources and navigating the youth mental health and substance use system.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to young people accessing services from a peer perspective and can work with an interdisciplinary health care team.
- Knowledge of approaches that promote health equity, including anti-oppressive and anti-racist practice, 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion, community engagement, cultural safety, trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and human rights and accessibility frameworks.
- Strong self-awareness and self-care practices and can establish and maintain professional relationships with youth accessing peer services.
- A high degree of familiarity with Office 365, as well as willingness to learn new computer programs; role will require electronic documentation.
- Available evenings and weekends.
- A valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence
