Safety and Compliance Officer

**Key Responsibilities**:
- Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and enforce compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations, including CVOR, Ministry of Transportation, FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and EPA standards.
- Safety Program Management: Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company's safety programs to reduce accidents, injuries, and compliance violations.
- Driver and Employee Training: Conduct regular training sessions for drivers and employees on safety practices, regulatory requirements, and company policies to ensure safety standards are met.
- Fleet Inspections: Perform regular inspections of vehicles, equipment, and facilities to ensure compliance with safety and maintenance standards.
- Accident and Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents, violations, and near-misses, analyze root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate safety and compliance records, including driver logs, accident reports, safety audits, and training documentation.
- Audit and Monitoring: Conduct internal audits to ensure ongoing compliance with safety regulations and industry standards. Prepare and respond to external audits from regulatory agencies.
- Driver Qualification Files: Maintain up-to-date driver qualification files, including medical records, background checks, and licenses.
- DOT and CSA Compliance: Monitor and manage Hours of Service (HOS), driver qualifications, and vehicle maintenance programs to ensure compliance with Ministry of Transportation regulations, CVOR, DOT and CSA standards.
- Risk Mitigation: Work with management to assess and mitigate safety risks, ensuring the company maintains a proactive safety culture.
**Qualifications**:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; degree or certification in Safety Management, Transportation, or related field is a plus.
- Proven experience in safety, compliance, or regulatory roles within the trucking or transportation industry.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT compliance, OSHA, and CSA standards.
- Ability to interpret and enforce safety regulations and standards effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to train and advise staff at all levels.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information and make critical decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency with safety management software, compliance tracking tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Previous experience with fleet management, accident investigation, or risk management is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams to improve safety and compliance initiatives.
