Head, Market Structure and Business Strategy, Tmx

The Director, Market Structure and Business Strategy will work with the Managing Director, Equity Design and Strategy to identify, assess and design key business and strategic opportunities that seek to leverage the core equities trading capabilities to grow and diversify the current Equity Trading product set. The focus for this role will be leading key product growth initiatives and important market structure advocacy/reform initiatives that will shape the Canadian Equity Trading landscape.

- Core role objectives_- Identify, assess and design new opportunities for TMX to leverage core equities trading and enterprise capabilities to:
- contribute to the assessment of and continued development of TMX positioning related to Canadian equity market structure issues, policy, and developments.-
- advocate for Canadian Market Structure Change to the benefit of the Canadian Equity Markets and our clients-
- lead design of major products and market structure initiatives-
- diversify our revenue sources-
- attract new customer segments-
- identify and deliver new value-add services-
- develop capabilities that facilitate the expansion of our business and strategic opportunity-set Primary functional responsibilities-
- Perform business opportunity assessments and contribute to the development of business cases for potential opportunities, which may include:
- Detailed market landscape research / review-
- Competitive fee analysis and modeling-
- Demand & risk / barrier assessments-
- Consultation with external stakeholder champions / partners-
- Consultation with internal partners-
- Market sizing and revenue opportunity estimate-
- Business concept and value-chain design-
- Revenue and cost estimation and modelling-
- Work with management to obtain buy-in for allocation of internal and/or cross-enterprise resources where necessary to develop business opportunity- Engage and collaborate with cross-enterprise resources as needed to fulfill business opportunity development objectives, whether for opportunities originating within or outside of the TMX Markets group.- Support TMX trading management as needed in furtherance of its responsibilities for the overall strategic vision and direction for Equity Trading.- Perform leadership functions within the group, mentoring and aiding junior members of the Design and Strategy team.- Maintain and update knowledge on developments in equity trading and equity market structure within Canada and across other key jurisdictions (eg. US, EU).- Analyze, assess and understand the implications of those developments on TMX’s equity trading business, its customers and on equity market structure in order to establish and promote TMX positioning.

Recommended Skills / Qualifications- Minimum of 10 years of experience in relevant Equity Trading roles;- Canadian equity capital markets experience and strong knowledge of Canadian Equity trading market structure- Knowledge and interest in Equity Options markets is an asset- Proficient in data analysis and financial modelling- Ability to prioritize and manage several priorities- Strong leadership and mentorship skills- Proven creative and strategic thinker with an eye to execution- Strong business acumen with proven qualitative and quantitative analytical skills- Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with an ability to work with and influence cross-divisional/functional teams- Strong writing, presentation and business case building skills.
