- The Student Resource Coordinator is a case manager, support, and resource for students. The Coordinator is knowledgeable and informed regarding student stressors, wellness, accessibility and learning support needs and other challenges, and develops resources and delivers programming to respond to those needs. The Coordinator receives and assesses a wide range of requests for assistance which may include counselling intake, responding to critical and urgent mental health needs, and receiving and supporting student complaints. The Coordinator facilitates solutions utilizing a wide range of internal and external contacts, elevates concerns, makes referrals as appropriate, and makes recommendations with respect to remedies and resolutions.- Working as part of a small team of Coordinators and other professional staff in the Department, the Coordinator will generally be assigned an area of focus (Counselling, Wellness, Policy Navigation or Learning Support) and will cross-train and provide back-up in all the Department’s service areas.**Some Typical Duties**:
- Educate students about counselling, wellness, learning support, and accessibility services and the steps involved in accessing services. In conjunction with and under the oversight of Counsellors and the Executive Director, Counselling + Wellness, Access + Learning Support, develop and deliver a regular schedule of programming that increases student awareness of available counselling and accessibility supports; promote mental health and wellness; and foster communities of student engagement, belongingness, and support.
- Serve as a resource, support, and case manager for students, and facilitate access to a range of services, from counselling and wellness services to accessibility and learning supports.
- Conduct intakes for Counselling and Policy Navigation. Provide assistance to students in navigating university policies and procedures, including complaint and appeal processes. Develop and recommend policies or policy revisions that help ensure students are supported with respect to accessibility and wellness and better able to exercise their rights of access and rights to complain, or appeal decisions that impact them.
- Receive confidential and private student concerns and complaints against students, faculty, staff, or administrators, and gather additional information. In consultation with the Executive Director, may escalate complaints to the appropriate individual or department within ECU. Support the student in the complaint process. In the case where a student makes a formal complaint, accompany them to hearings, meetings or appeals. Prepare confidential case files, confidential reports, and recommendations. The Student Resource Coordinator may make reports and recommendations related to discipline and may participate in disciplinary processes.
- Monitor and coordinate responses to messages received through the Support Messaging System and conduct appropriate outreach.
- Receive and assess reports from members of the ECU community including students, faculty, and staff regarding distressed and distressing or concerning behavior of students, and conduct outreach as appropriate.
- Consult with Counsellors and/or Executive Director, Counselling + Wellness, Access + Learning Support on complex cases, medical documentation, and cases of safety concern.
- Provide consultation to faculty, staff, and admin in supporting students in the teaching and learning environment.
- In consultation with the Executive Director or Counsellors, conduct risk assessments and crisis intervention and follow-up and provide emergency consultation to students and staff. May accompany a student at risk to hospital or other service or support facility when necessary.
- Continually assess current and emerging needs of the student body with respect to counselling, wellness and learning support and collect data and evaluate services and supports to identify gaps and make recommendations for new or revised programming, supports and services.
