The Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region (ASNR) is a community support service organization that provides programs and services to people living with dementia and their care partners in the Niagara Region. We work closely with other service providers to ensure quality care and support for our clients.
We employ administrative and fund development staff, educators, social workers, nurses, therapeutic rec staff, personal support workers and volunteers who work together as a team to meet the needs of people living with dementia and their care partners.

The Coordinator of Volunteer Programs will manage all elements of volunteerism, including but not limited to recruitment, screening, orientation, training, ongoing supervision and evaluation of volunteers within the organization. In addition, the Coordinator is responsible for the overall administration of the Friendly Visiting Program, Tele-Care Program, Recollections Program including assessment of client needs, and the matching of clients with volunteers to ensure that the needs of clients are met. The Coordinator of volunteers will also recruit and organize volunteers for Bingo sessions and become BINGO trained as backup to support OLG halls when required. The Coordinator is the first point of contact for all organizational volunteers and high school placements and will act as a liaison with all departments to assess the organization’s volunteer needs for recruitment and retention of volunteers.
**Position Description**
Title: Coordinator of Volunteer Programs
Reporting To: Director of Education
Hours: 40 hours per week (paid lunch break); Monday to Friday - 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Salary Range: $41,000 - $46,000
Benefits: Extended health and dental benefits, RRSP matching program
Vacation: 3 Weeks paid vacation (Pro-rated to calendar year)
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Generate appropriate volunteering opportunities and role descriptions based on the needs of the organization
- Liaise with the Database Coordinator to maintain Volunteer Website membership and information
- Maintain an up-to-date volunteer manual that aligns with current legislation and includes role descriptions, policies and procedures that promote best practices, quality assurance and risk management processes Manage all elements of volunteerism
- Recruit volunteers through various venues not limited to volunteer fairs, community networks, while researching other creative means of recruitment strategies and campaigns
- Follow a stringent process to interview, screen and orient volunteers. This will include police and vulnerable sector clearances, and reference checks
- Provide ongoing support for all volunteers
- Implement yearly evaluation process to ensure the both the needs of the volunteer and organization are being met
- Liaise with the education staff to provide specialized training to all volunteers who will be participating in the Friendly Visiting Program and Tele-care Program
- Back-up staff person for the Aging and Dementia Simulation program
- Liaise with the Family Support staff in matching the Friendly Visiting volunteer with an appropriate client and connect regularly with the counselor regarding the visits
- Provide training and support of the Recollections Program including receiving referrals, matching clients to volunteers, scheduling support, photo collection and project printing
