**Full-Time Contract Human Resources Advisor**

**SOUTHLAKE RESIDENTIAL CARE VILLAGE**

Responsible to the Executive Director, or in her absence, the Director of Care, the HR Advisor, as a member of the Home’s management team, ensures residents’ safety by following established policies & procedures through the following:

- Manages the recruitment process and guides/supports hiring managers in the selection process. He/she ensures a high standard of internal and external customer service and applies fair and equitable recruitment practices. He/she participates in organizing and attending job fairs, updating job postings, campus recruitment and other functions related to recruitment.
- Serves as a communications bridge between the organization’s employees and its management. He/she advises management on different areas of union-management relations providing background information to help prepare management for new contract negotiations. He/she assists to resolve employee grievances, or complaints. Facilitates the resolution of differing interpretations of a union contracts for Ontario Nurses Association (ONA) and Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE)
- Keeps current with new legislation and offers expert knowledge and skills in order to generate and promote a positive health and safety culture in order to help control occupational risk. Responsible for ensuring that all safety legislation is adhered to and policies and practices are adopted. Keeps records of incidents and accidents and produces statistics for managers. Responsible for WSIB claims management and disability management.
- Provides a summary to employees regarding eligibility of organization’s benefits programs. Ensures all benefit plan documents, summary plan descriptions, booklets and information brochures are accurate and current for dissemination. Acts as the group benefits plan administrator, corresponds with third-party carriers and processes any employer and/or employee changes for the facility.
- Conducts investigations and supports management team with employee relations, counseling and disciplinary action measures as required.
- Assists Payroll Coordinator and Office Manager with processing pay period ending status changes (i.e. terminations, transfer of status, leave of absences, etc.)
- Develops policies, procedures and processes to streamline and support inter-departmental functions at the facility as required.
- Creates employment verification letters, internal and external correspondences to stakeholders as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

**Education**:
1. Diploma/Degree in Human Resources Management required and/ or a commitment to obtain a Human Resources education.
2. Minimum of 3 years’ recent experience in an HR advisory/ recruitment role in a Long Term Care Home, Hospital or other Healthcare setting.
3. Experience in total Human Resources environment and at and at least three years of exposure in a unionized setting.
4. HRPA Member - in good standing with the Human Resources Professional Association of Ontario.
5. CHRP designation considered an asset
6. Knowledge of government legislation and collective bargaining Experience with recruitment and selection process.
7. High level of composure, ability to work well under pressure.
8. Experience with payroll systems is considered an asset (ELMO, Scheduling)
9. Intermediate to advanced computer software skills including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
10. Basic keyboarding skills.
11. Excellent organizational skills - exceptional ability to prioritize.
12. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - capable of dealing with variety of employee emotions
13. Regular attendance on-site is a requirement of the position

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months
