Reporting to the HR Managers, Employee & Labour Relations, the HR Advisor, Employee & Labour Relations will play a key role in supporting the development and implementation of a comprehensive Employee & Labour Relations strategy. In addition, through the provision of comprehensive Employee & Labour Relations support, the HR Advisor will contribute to the provision of safe, high quality service excellence and compassionate patient centered care.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders; act as an informed first point of contact and provide support and guidance to department leaders and staff regarding to employee and labour relations inquiries
- Make knowledgeable recommendations to proactively identify and mitigate employee and labour relations issues; refer complex inquiries to appropriate HR team members as appropriate
- Conduct investigations into issues as directed, including participating in fact-finding meetings, preparing interview questionnaires, recommending approved courses of action and preparing reports and related correspondence
- Understand and anticipate priorities and needs to provide advanced organization and support for a number of regular and ad-hoc employee and labour relations meetings and committees, including booking meeting rooms, compiling and distributing meeting agendas, minutes and other supporting materials as required; participate and contribute to related committees as required
- Maintain a variety of employee and labour relations files (e.g. incidents, investigations, grievances, etc.) with a high degree of accuracy and promptness; compile, maintain and support the tracking and reporting on relevant departmental information and metrics
- Review incoming correspondence with discretion and tact to determine urgency, accuracy and the need for follow up; takes action on routine matters
- Develop and maintain systems that enable the effective and efficient flow of work for the portfolio and related HR programs
- Research employee and labour relations issues to support issue resolution as assigned; create case file chronologies, generate and analyze data, create reports and summaries (e.g. HRIS data audits, file reviews, literature reviews, external scans, etc.)
- Support the implementation and maintenance of the Attendance Support Program, including compiling and analyzing attendance data, coordinating the creation and distribution of program letters, summarizing data and preparing reports as directed and participating in counselling meetings with leaders and participating staff
- Ensure the accurate and timely maintenance of the annual regulated health professional credential verification process; produce related metrics and reports
- Attend grievance and arbitration/mediation meetings and collective bargaining sessions as directed; proactively and accurately coordinate meeting preparation, take accurate and complete minutes; track and support the completion of meeting follow-up deliverables
- Actively participate in various HR projects including: conducting research and analysis, developing and revising policies/processes, and creating communication materials
- Participate in continuous quality improvement and program development initiatives that support departmental goals aligned with the Sinai Health’s strategic direction and the HR People Plan
- Participate in the preparation for and delivery of training programs as required
- Promote a collaborative work environment and supports colleagues as needed to ensure optimal team functioning; provide coverage for team members as needed
- Other duties as assigned
- Job Requirements- Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree preferably in human resources, industrial relations, business or a related field from an accredited educational institution
- A minimum of two (2) years of recent and relevant human resources experience, including experience in employee and labour relations required
- Experience in a large, complex unionized environment preferred; healthcare experience a definite asset
