**The Opportunity**
We are seeking a skilled, responsible and confident **Administrative Assistant** for a permanent, full time position at our **North Battleford** **Area Office**.
**Main Purpose**
Under the supervision of the Legal Director, Lawyer, and/or Legal Assistant, Administrative Assistant provides a wide variety of complex secretarial and administrative duties in a fast-paced and demanding work environment.
**Primary Responsibilities**
This position provides and obtains information to/from public and private sector groups/individuals which may require some discussion. Administrative Assistant is typically the initial contact for the office, dealing with reception, messages and booking of appointments.
**K**ey Accountabilities**
- Takes dictation in shorthand or from a dictating machine and transcribes on a computer
- Word processes or types letters, documents and other material from instructions or precedents
- Maintains client files, filing systems and client data base
- Answers the telephone, responds to in-person inquires and relays messages
- Provides information to the public and to clients based on general knowledge
- Interviews applicants/clients to determine financial and range of service eligibility (including assessment of contributions), determines if the matter may be a conflict for the office, sets appointments for professional staff, and assesses and refers unusual situations to supervisor.
- Provides other clerical functions, which may include in-coming and out-going mail and maintaining statistical records.
- Maintains familiarity with the commission’s policies and procedures
**Essential Education and Experience**
- High school graduation and one year of relevant post-secondary education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to operate switchboard equipment, type, word process and transcribe from dictating machines
- Minimum of one year of previous related experience
- General knowledge of the practice of law is an asset
