Planetary Health Strategy Lead

The Planetary Health Strategy Lead will engage with all relevant stakeholders at NOSM University (NOSM U) and beyond to educate, and promote thinking, decision making, and action that’s in keeping with Planetary Health precepts and principles. The main focus will be to develop a Planetary Health Strategy that includes the integration of Planetary Health into the curriculum, research initiatives and ambitious action to reduce NOSM U’s carbon footprint and other impacts on the planetary environment.

**Reporting**:
The Planetary Health Strategy Lead reports to the President, Vice-Chancellor, Dean and CEO of NOSM U.

**Responsibilities**:

- Work with stakeholders to develop the NOSM U Planetary Health Strategy and appropriate key results to measure progress of Planetary Health Strategy
- Serve as Chair of the NOSM U Action Committee on Climate Change (ACCC)
- Serve as an advisor for Planetary Health curriculum development
- Promote planetary health initiatives and best practices
- Help develop Planetary Health knowledge and environmental advocacy at all levels, including NOSM University clinical sites, cultural relations, staff, faculty, preceptors and students.
- Assist with planning and coordination of activities that support the Planetary Health framework including annual events (e.g., Earth Day) and student-led initiatives.
- Promote Planetary Health research initiatives
- Align with regional, national and international planetary health promoting educational institutions and organizations and represent NOSM U at key meetings as required.
- Help position NOSM U as a regional and international leader in Planetary Health
- Perform other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- M.D. with RCPSC or CCFP Certification and in good standing with CPSO or a Ph.D. from a recognized university with Canadian accreditation
- Must have or be eligible for a Faculty Appointment in an appropriate Division at NOSM U

**Certifications/Designations**:

- Additional training or degrees in planetary health domains would be an asset

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:
The successful applicant should have:

- comprehensive knowledge of the direct and indirect health impacts and opportunities presented by climate change and other global environmental issues
- the knowledge, skill, and determination to inspire and assist with sustainability initiatives at NOSM University
- experience teaching Planetary Health in higher education
- experience implementing Planetary Health principles
- an interest in promoting Planetary Health research

**Language**:

- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
- French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset

**Working Conditions**:

- Extended periods of sitting
- Interaction with employees, management, and the public at large
- Working in a busy office environment with frequent interruptions
- Occasional overtime and travel
- Working collaboratively overall and independently on the day-to-day

**Remuneration**:

- As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process

**Time Commitment**:

- Two (2.0) days per month
