**KEY FUNCTION**:
Design and teach professional development initiatives, provide information and resources to partner organizations within the Northern Maternal Child Network (NMCN). Monitor pediatric health status, quality and performance, and collaborate with partners on quality improvement initiatives to enhance pediatric care.
**REPORTING**:
Under the general direction of the Regional Manager, Northern Maternal Child Network.
**DUTIES**:
- Contribute to the promotion of optimum pediatric care by sharing skills and knowledge with pediatric colleagues in the region.
- Work with partner organizations to promote evidence-based care and adoption of best practice standards.
- Participate on regional, provincial and national committees that serve to complement the program’s activities in the region.
- Plan, develop, implement and evaluate educational programs offered for pediatric partner organizations in the North East, North West and outside the region.
- Conduct and/or contribute in developing specialized in-services or education sessions based on practice updates and identified needs from within the geographic region.
- Promote the use of the pediatric data as part of educational programs, partner support, projects and initiatives.
- Facilitate access to clinical resources, best practice guidelines, standards of practice; act as a consultation resource for organizations within the assigned regional catchment and recipient hospital sites.
- Lead and/or assist in the coordination of NMCN core activities (e.g. workshops, committees, annual visits, annual meeting, newsletter, etc.).
- Participate in the development and implementation of clinical research projects and funding proposals.
- Use knowledge translation strategies to keep partners up-to-date with current pediatric research literature and resources.
- Work collaboratively with the other team members to ensure goals and objectives of NMCN are implemented effectively and efficiently.
- Oversee developmental strategies and follow government body and organizational policies to ensure data is private, confidential, and protected.
- Prepare an annual report in accordance with the reporting requirements.
- Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
- Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**EDUCATION AND TRAINING**:
- Minimum of a four (4) year Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BScN) from an accredited university.
- A Master’s Degree from an accredited university is preferred.
- Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
**EXPERIENCE**:
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a pediatric department within a health care environment.
- Experience with quality improvement initiatives to advance practice, evaluate quality of care, and support professional development is required.
- Research experience is preferred.
- Experience in curriculum development and teaching is preferred.
- Training or recent experience with project management is preferred.
**KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES**:
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate learning methodologies and change management theories.
- Demonstrated strong leadership skills.
- Demonstrated excellent presentation skills.
- Demonstrated excellent judgment and proven analytical skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in general health care and community resources.
- Demonstrated working knowledge in databases, data collection and reporting.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA)/Ontario Medical Association’s (OMA) Communicable Disease Surveillance Protocols.
- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
