**Position description**:
**Position Responsibilities**:

- Perform the day-to-day functions of the Access Services department, including answering patron account and circulation questions, undertaking stacks maintenance, processing library materials at all stages of the circulation workflow.
- Serve as a first point of contact for patrons of the library; provide welcoming and knowledgeable service in person, online, and by phone; resolve or refer queries using good judgement and following established guidelines.
- Provides a wide array of services using the Integrated Library System (ILS) following established rules and guidelines.
- Monitor inventory and ensure that non-traditional circulating items (such as laptops, chargers, white boards, etc.) are in good working order.
- Provide basic troubleshooting support to users of library technologies such as computers, copiers, scanners, etc.
- Ensures patron privacy in all transactions.
- Assists in the training and supervision of student assistants. Operates the Library’s course reserve services, with responsibilities including receiving and processing course reserves, liaising with faculty about course reserves, and being aware of Canadian copyright as it relates to materials on reserve in libraries.
- Processes financial transactions accurately and securely.
- Provides clerical assistance to librarians and archivists.
- Performs technical duties related to catalogue records of library materials.
- Opens and closes the building ensuring the security and safety of the library users and resources.
- Gathers and keeps building usage statistics.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications/skills**:

- Library Technician’s Diploma or a University degree or relevant combination of course work and experience in a library, preferably in an academic environment.
- Strong customer service orientation and the ability to work effectively with patrons, including students, staff, and faculty
- Experience with the digitization of materials is considered an asset.
- Strong technical skills; experience with an Integrated Library System strongly preferred
- Knowledge of library services, familiarity with library resources, and skills in using word processing and spreadsheet software (e.g. MS Word and Excel).
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate good judgement and problem-solving skills, prioritize, and switch between multiple tasks.

- Ability to perform bending/lifting tasks, and to safely handle/shelve heavy items.
- Must be available to work in rotation evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays as well as in inclement weather.
