Legal Collector - Job Summary
- Location: Toronto_
We are looking for a detail-oriented and professional **Legal Collector** to join our team. In this role, you will manage delinquent accounts, enforce judgments, and identify legal avenues for debt recovery. Collaborating closely with our lawyers and judgment services team, you will ensure compliance with provincial and federal collection laws while negotiating payment arrangements and settlements. This position requires strong negotiation skills, a solid understanding of debt collection laws and enforcement remedies, and exceptional communication abilities.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Negotiate payment plans and settlements in accordance with legal and company policies.
- Monitor and track accounts at various collection stages, ensuring timely follow-ups.
- Work with lawyers and judgment services teams to escalate cases requiring legal enforcement.
- Prepare and review legal documents, including demand letters, judgments, writs of enforcement, and court filings.
- Maintain accurate records of all collection activities, debtor communications, and payment agreements.
- Stay up to date on relevant laws and regulations, including consumer protection legislation, federal and provincial privacy laws, and jurisdiction-specific collection laws.
- Assist in developing collection strategies and policies to improve recovery rates.
**Qualifications**
**Required**:
- High school diploma (Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field preferred).
- Experience in debt collection, legal collections, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of applicable collection laws and legal enforcement processes.
- Excellent negotiation, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency in collection software, CRM systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet collection targets.
**Preferred**:
- Experience working in a law firm or legal environment.
