Assistant Controller

Homes by Avi Group of Companies is seeking an experienced, innovative and highly detail-oriented individual to join our team as an **Assistant** **Controller**. **Assistant Controller**

You will work directly under the leadership of the Controller to mentor and support the accounting team. The Assistant Controller will be responsible to service our multifamily, property management, Texas and investment companies. The main role of the Assistant Controller is to review the work of the accounting team, prepare and review reconciliations and working papers to support the financial reporting function and lead initiatives to assist in achieving our finance strategic goals.

You are an expert in providing timely, accurate financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders, cash flow management, budgeting and analysis.

You have strong interpersonal skills and are an effective, articulate communicator in both your written and verbal communications.

**What You Will Do**:

- Manage the financial reporting function to ensure that all internal and external reporting is delivered complete, accurate and on time
- Lead a team of accountants responsible for month-end and year-end activities and reporting
- Month end journal entries and working papers for investment companies
- Review of overhead reporting with Managers
- Review of bank reporting, draw and loan reports
- Review GST, bank reconciliations and financial packages
- Assist Controller in insurance reporting and property tax management
- Develop, document and maintain internal controls, policies and procedures
- Assist the Controller in the preparation of annual divisional budgets
- Assist the Controller in preparation of monthly and annual forecasting and variance analysis
- Develop templates to forecast and monitor Key Performance Indicators
- Review of gross margin analysis and reporting
- Work through complex transactions to document and complete journal entries
- Review staff journal entries and reconciliations to provide feedback or assistance in reconciling
- Assist the Controller with preparation of internal cash flow projections and planning
- Work closely with staff and management to build strong relationships to optimize productivity and manage priorities
- File corporate tax and partnership returns
- Provide insights into financial performance and trends to support strategic decision-making.
- Work closely with operational departments to ensure financial reporting meets needs of users
- Adhoc reporting as required

**Your Qualifications - The Must Have’s**
- CPA Designation is required
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience
- Strong leadership skills with an ability to develop, mentor and complete performance evaluations for their team
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Work independently to lead strategic initiatives and resolve issues with support of the Controller

- Experience with Great Plains Dynamics
- Experience leading system changes and implementations
- Experience filing tax returns and tax related transactions
- Experience with condominium property management and general contractor work
