**ROLE OVERVIEW**
- _Reporting to the Director, Plastic Free Oceans, the Manager leads the Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup program. Responsible for the coordination and implementation of the program, working with their team along with other internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver the program strategy, in support of our broader conservation objectives and ultimately the restoration of ocean health._ _To this end, the Manager will perform a variety of tasks including growing the programs reach and impact across Canada and the USA, building truly collaborative partnerships and ultimately working to radically reduce the amount of plastic pollution leaking out into our oceans._
- _**About the Shoreline Cleanup Program**
The Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup has been running in one form or another since 1994. Every year we engage thousands of volunteers across Canada to cleanup their local community and collect data that helps us stop plastic at its source. Since the program began, there have been 30,542 cleanups that have collected more than 2.1 million kg of trash across Canada’s shorelines.
Addressing ocean plastic pollution is a job that will require governments, everyday citizens, businesses and not-for profits. We can only address this critical issue by working together. The OWSC is now recognized as one of the largest direct action conservation programs in Canada. Ocean Wise is committed to growing the program to achieve our mission: to stop plastic pollution
**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**
***Maximize the impact of the OWSC program in radically reducing plastic pollution by**:
- Co-creating, evaluating, and coordinating the development and implementation of the OWSC program in support of our overarching Plastic Initiative’s ambition, to radically reduce plastic pollution
- Managing the development and implementation of new projects or activations for increase scale and impact, while ensuring alignment to overarching strategy and goals, and delivery, on time and on budget
- Ensuring the effective use of resources to achieve strategic goals and respond to challenges and opportunities
- Utilizing a broad understanding of plastic pollution and associated environmental, social, economic and political context to effect meaningful change
- Building, managing and developing the OWSC team, creating an environment conducive to individual development, productivity, and achievement while ensuring open lines of communication, and maximizing positive impact for the Ocean
- Identifying and implementing opportunities to increase revenue generating activities, including grants and sponsorships that improve performance and delivery of program and Plastics goals
**Expand awareness of Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup nationally and engage new participants by**:
- Ensuring effective, impactful relationships with sponsors and program partners
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, nationally and internationally, and identifying collaborative opportunities
- Promoting participation in OWSC and other plastics programs through targeted networking and event attendance
- Planning and executing local, national & international cleanup events, responding to volunteer queries, completing data entry
- Representing Ocean Wise and speaking on behalf of the program to partners, industry, media, NGO community and general public
**Ensures the overall success of Shoreline Cleanup through effective management of operations by**:
- Completing program evaluation and tracking performance against targets and objectives
- Establishing performance objectives/goals, reviewing progress throughout the year, and completing formal performance reviews for direct reports as required
- Managing regular asset review, and identifying opportunities to improve program impact and delivery
- Ensuring program records and resources are maintained in accordance with Ocean Wise policy
- Safeguards program, participants and team by ensuring appropriate insurance is in place and the program is compliant with all relevant legal requirements
- Overseeing departmental budget and providing regular status updates to superior, noting any variances. Overseeing financial well-being of the program by analyzing cost effectiveness and exercising cost controls
- Collaborating effectively across Ocean Wise in support of OWSC targets, as well as broader Ocean Wise goals and objectives
**Assists with program communications by**:
- Collaborating with coms specialist to create engaging content to drive program participation and catalyze behavior change
- Ensuring content submitted is managed effectively and engaging stories are surfaced
- Planning, promoting and executing webinars, with internal and external partners
- Representing Ocean Wise at relevant events
