UNIT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Advancement Officer is responsible for the planning and execution of programs, initiatives, and events that engage both the DeGroote School of Businesses diverse alumni base and the many other stakeholders that comprise DeGroote's communities.
The Marketing & Community Engagement team at McMaster University's DeGroote School of Business is focused on advancing the School's goals through strategic marketing, communications, and alumni and community engagement efforts that build audience awareness and shape perceptions of the DeGroote brand.

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing high quality meaningful opportunities for stakeholders such as alumni, donors, media, community
and government, to engage with and maintain positive relationships with faculty, students and the University, all with the goal
of maximizing reputation, relationships and revenue for the University. As a key member of the University Advancement team,
this position is responsible for making a positive commitment to University Advancement’s mission, vision and values, and
principles: Integrity, Quality, Respect, Service, Strategy and Teamwork. Due to the nature of this position some evening and
week-end work as well as some travel will be required.
PURPOSE AN KEY FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for creating and implementing a strategic engagement plan for building relationships between community
- stakeholders and the University.
- Responsible for implementing donor stewardship plans and obligations when they include an event or University
- engagement element.
- Develop strong working relationships with key contacts and stakeholders within the internal and external community
- for the purpose of promoting the activities and programs of the department or area.
- Support the programs and activities of the McMaster Alumni Association and ensure compliance with relevant
- association policies and practices.
- Develop strategies to identify and cultivate potential relationships with a variety of stakeholders and build face-face
- relationships with them.
- Attention to detail is required to create and produce printed materials, both conventional and electronic, to be
- distributed to stakeholders.
- Develop content and messaging directed towards key strategic audiences.
- Represent the department or faculty through correspondence, both paper, digital and electronic, phone and in-person
- contact.
- Develop and deliver presentations and represent the department or faculty in various public-speaking environments.
- Volunteer management experience is required for the recruitment, orientation, training, recognition and on-going
- program coordination of volunteer programs.
- Evaluate on-going programs and recommend modifications and improvements.
- Implement and maintain the program budget.
- Complete analysis, projections and reports on the department or faculty advancement goals and performance
- measures.
- Event planning experience and superior communication and interpersonal skills are required to plan, coordinate, and
- oversee events involving alumni, students, media, government, community members, faculty, staff and University
- senior administration.
- Play a key role in the advancement team and contribute to the team mission of growing the reputation, relationships
- and revenue of the Institution.
- Coordinate campus visits and participate in cultivation activities as needed to promote and enhance the University’s
- fundraising efforts.
- Coordinate all activities as appropriate with other University and University Advancement functions.
- Update and maintain information in various databases including Advance, and effectively use computer systems
- designed to manage information on McMaster’s advancement program.
- Participate, from time to time, on a variety of project and work teams in University Advancement.

- Provide direction to others in how to carry out work tasks.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards and procedures for short-term staff and volunteers.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to negotiate successfully with vendors and external constituents.
- Demonstrated ability to influence colleagues to effect change successfully.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in influencing stakeholders through cross-team projects and change management activities.
- Ability to multi-task with demanding timelines.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times.
